The new Lotus "Exige"

Exploded

Recommended Posts

There have been some rumours going round for months now, that the new "Exige" would be released (soon). Seems we are finally getting there. Bibs you sure know how to build the tension, when are you going to post the pictures and details?

Meanwhile enjoy the test Mule

I don't know much about Exige's but given how wide the track is and given DB has said the rolling chassis is complete, could it be the new Esprit under there?

Or is that just me being to optimistic?

No, there's been Exige V6 mules for a few years now. The original project was signed off by MJK a while ago but got canned 18 months or so back. This latest incarnation seems to be going ahead but with a more aggressive bodystyle similar to the GT3 racecar which was at the 60th bash. It'll be an interesting diversion, but at around £50k I doubt it will find a huge amount of homes - but I hope to be proven wrong on this.

Let's hope we find out soon.

I'm curious to know if the design will fit the new Era, or remains a project outside of the new era range.

Goodwood is still 1,5 week away, too long to wait for...

If they make the car a limited edition, who knows it might sell better than expected.

You'll have to wait until the Frankfurt motorshow in September.

Actually the Exige is quite small!!

Oh Dear....a car I actually want....no............... need!! I can see a remortgage coming on.

Quite correct though I'm sure that won't be in the marketing blurb. MJK originally signed it off as a test bed for the Evora V6 but after spending so much on fitting it in/getting the running gear up to handling the additional power RB thought it might make a good addition.

MJK was still in 2 minds about whether it would be a definate release or not and when he left it was still on the list to finish developing, with the Evora S, Roadster, Esprit, new Elise etc.

Guy - the Exige S does 0 to 60 in 4.0 seconds might this new car be able to beat me in a drag race? If so do you take fast milkfloats Teslas in part exchange

Having 350 hp on 1100kg, that sounds like car porn.

Certainly if you keep in mind that PBRacing is getting 415 hp out of the same engine/SC configuration... Dazzling figures.

Let's just hope Lotus think a bit about the price , just hope they don't go silly like with the Evora S , the Alfa carbon fiber Exige 4C is out at the same time and starts under £40k. Some realism please Lotus , it's time and you need to sell some cars .

The Alfa is made for the US market ,Alfa say it's not just a limited production car , hard top for now with a soft top later. Sure your not thinking of an 8C ?

There is a fair bit of press speculation on the 4c, but very little of substance from AR

Dealers in UK know nothing, there is more in the press than they have been told

Press announcement of 1500 cars per year worldwide, if a UK allocation there will inevitably be a select dealer network, but as that network is not announced, then the allocation is surprisingly unknown. No way of telling on RHD at the moment, worry is that they could shift all cars LHD, so it is how much they want UK (and far east) markets

Have a deposit with a dealer who had the 8C, so should get the 4C

How many Exige V6 cars will be made a year do you think ? If they go silly with the price they won't sell , just like the Evora S .

Don't get me wrong - I want to buy one , I have had three new S2 Exiges and one Elise over the years and love them but the bonkers high pricing will kill Lotus before they have a chance to build the new cars and as other cars are starting to look more like a Lotus than Lotus they need to get it right IMHO.

Rather than bring out a V6 Exige based on the old Exige, wouldn't it make more sense to use the Evora as the platform and bring out a smaller, more track focussed Evora, perhaps called the, erm, Exige? A smaller, lighter 2 seater with it's chassis (2.5 times stiffer than the 111) and suspension would be the nuts, all that needs to be done is reduce the track and wheelbase and with it's VVA chassis that's fairly simple :D

I'm not privy to anything more than you guys, just thinking out loud!

That would do nicely but price is king there... incidentally wouldn't a smaller Evora type platform for an Exige be just the thing for a new Elise? :innocent:

Having an affair with another marque... B-)
