Just been keyed... 48hrs after a respray. Is this a new record?

Title says it all really... happened in this Sainsbury's car park earlier today between 1050am and 1140am in Malton, North Yorkshire... quite a nice town, quite a nice area tbh... just shows I guess.

I'm guessing there'll be no point in claiming off the insurance, especially with the excess and price hike for next year?

Why? I just don't understand why some one would want to spoil any car especially one as rare as any of ours. Why not just admire the car? This sort of vandalism is beyond my understanding.

Same scum that's been looting and sees no problem with it.

It could be something to do with that... I'd understand if I'd parked it on a council estate at school-chucking out time, but in Malton late morning in a Sainsbury's car park??? It's kind of... well, bizarre. Perhaps the riots have given all would-be vandals around the country a new sense of confidence?

Hi James what a choker. I had similar 3 times in the same car park here in Manchester, it tuned out to to be numbskulls squeezing passed with trolleys. It must take them a lot of time to walk round the parked cars. Best of luck with the repair.

Thats awful.

But Andy is right - a good chip firm will have that sorted to virtual invisibility.

Doesn't make you feel any warmer to your fellow man (or woman) though.

This happened to a friend here in Colorado.

Council candidate charged with felony

By Trevor Hughes

Staff Writer

A candidate for Louisville (Colorado) City Council has been charged with a felony after she allegedly vandalized a $40,000 car parked in a handicapped space.

According to police and witnesses, Ward 2 candidate Barbara Escajeda "keyed" a dark green Lotus parked in a handicapped space at the Coal Creek Golf Course July 8. In a voluntary statement made to police the next day, Escajeda said she "made a big mistake."

"I believe that as human beings we are not perfect," Escajeda said in the handwritten statement. "I have never caused damage to anything before. I made a mistake. God knows I am telling the truth."

According to witnesses, she scratched the passenger side of the 1994 Lotus S4 with a key, stepped back and looked around, then did it again. She then went to play golf, according to police reports.

Damage to the Lotus is estimated at $5,000 - $10,000. The owner of the car, who had just undergone reconstructive knee surgery, had properly displayed a handicapped placard, police said.

According to reports, Escajeda initially denied the charges when interviewed by police, but offered to pay for the damage to the car. Police say she eventually confessed, and apologized to the car's owner. Escajeda owns a company that helps abused women start their own businesses.

In an interview Sept. 4, Escajeda reiterated that she made a "mistake" in damaging the car.

"I made a mistake. What I did was wrong. This had nothing to do with the owner of the car. I've offered to pay for all the damages. It's a situation that you can find yourself in and all you can say is 'I made a mistake and it won't happen again.' It's certainly a mistake that could cost me the election. The most important thing is to be honest and up-front."

Escajeda blamed "47 years of pent-up frustration" for her actions. She said suffering she's seen as a nurse who's traveled the world caused tension within her.

"In Thailand... there was a man that had both of his legs chopped off. He was dragging himself along the street by his elbows. I couldn't help that man," Escajeda said. "Why did I do it? I don't know."

In the first week of August, according to police reports, Escajeda called the investigating officer and told him the charges "will not stick."

She then called him back Aug. 11 and invited him to dinner. That officer has since moved on to the Longmont (Colorado) Police Department.

Police Chief Bruce Goodman, who was familiar with the case, said Escajeda's dinner invitation was unusual, but not illegal. "It's not serious at all," Goodman said of the invitation. "I would not take it as bribery."

Escajeda said the chief is a close friend.

Carpark cameras?

I find this action by idiots totally unacceptable. Where have we gone wrong. As children growing up in Enfield in the 1940's and 50's we were taught to respect other people, respect other peoples property, respect law and order and also respect ourselves. Is it parenting, media (especially tv) or what. Would love to find out where we went wrong and fix it. How about bringing back conscription?

Basically echo everything said above.

I was washing my Elise one day a few years back and three kids walked through the garage block. After the admiring glances, one of them turns around and says "what if i was to damage it?"

I don't get why peoples attitude is to automatically destroy? You don't go to a car show and think about damaging every single car on display.

I will very rarely park my Elise in a supermaket (or public for that matter) car park simply to avoid this sort of thing.

Horrible and right after a respray - ramjet has a point though, there'll be cameras in the Sainsbury's?

The UK seems to be producing a crop of totally hopeless feral oiks. The solution is to change things so that we don't produce any more....re-introduce the educational discipline that served the country all through the period of Empire, and stop this rubbish whereby children and youths are beyond restraint. Why on earth should society be in fear and trembling of a bunch of idiots? Makes no sense to me. My upbringing was along the same lines as Roger912....if it wasn't yours, you didn't touch it...and misbehaviour was punished by effective sanctions; not a pat on the head and a sweetie....and society worked.

Problem is, granted that it is possible to change things to prevent the current youth mindset taking root, what do we do to STOP this sort of casual vandalism? The justice system as presently constituted is worthless.

None of this rant helps Our Man as was in Milton Keynes, though....thankfully the paint doesn't appear to be metallic; ought to be possible to get an invisible fix. Good luck...and stay away from shopping in it!

I had a similar experience a few years back. Parked well away from everyone (not a car for 20 spaces in every direction) came back to find some miscreant pulled up next to me and smacked his door into the Esprit about 10 times and drove away. Damage was so bad you could see the fiberglass in the door.

I suspect this may not have been malicious but done by someone pushing a trolley alongside the car.

It amazes me when I go to Tesco how many people reverse into a parking space, thus making the boot away from the "road" meaning they have to push the trolley between the cars to get to the back. I have seen these type of marks done by trolleys, handbags, zips on coats and even the rivets on jeans and people squeeze between cars.

That does suck, Sorry guy.

Even at car shows the kids are getting bad, running around and touching everything. but even in general everyday use i can find hand, finger and face prints on my car and windows. I was told never to touch other peoples cars and i stick to it. Why is it not a rule of life?

No offence but your trolleys are some of the most retarded items i have ever come across. Our trolleys only have swivel wheels on the front so they track in a straight line and dont crab walk all over. It was most disconcerting pushing your trolleys.
