Bibs
http://f1.madeinmoto...port-26146.html Aug.26 (GMM) Tony Fernandes' formula one team will probably be renamed 'Caterham Team AirAsia' ahead of the 2012 season. And Turun Sanomat correspondent Heikki Kulta also reports that, as the long naming dispute with Proton's Group Lotus comes to an end, the Lotus logo will be removed from the green T128 cars with almost immediate effect.Kulta said the logos will still be seen on the Team Lotus cars this weekend but not at Monza in two weeks. As well as the specialist British sports car maker Caterham, Fernandes also recently bought the premier league football club Queens Park Rangers. Not a huge surprise and I think we guessed this around six months ago. I would imagine that Fernandes will retain the company he's still not paid David Hunt for just to pee Group Lotus off unless the bigwig politicians in Malaysia tell him otherwise, or David Hunt retaines ownership and Group make him an offer? simonb
Better insight from Tony's fanboy http://joesaward.wordpress.com/ Now that there is only one Lotus F1, should we all get behind LRGP, and be really worried that finances are slim. i wonder how long it takes a F1 team to burn $770 million these days? Gus82
I'm very relieved! From next year I can cheer on Lotus as my favourite large team and Caterham as my favourite small team, but the most important thing is that the uncomfortable situation with Team Lotus promotong another manufacturer is finally resolved!!! ramjet
Don't know Joe Saward but he's definitely being paid. What I noticed further down was Heidfeld taking LRGP to court because they want to replace him as a driver. You couldn't write the script for F1 could you? Why hasn't David Hunt told TF to go to buggery yet? Maybe he doesn't have much time for DB either? rocket63
Interesting. Fernades, the purveyor of all things Lotus so buys Caterham and renames the team. Fernandes the lifelong West Ham United fan, so buys QPR. A spin doctor of immense proportions. Money talks and he is full of S**T Quote Caught between a rock and a hard place in a catch 22 situation, So its 6 of one and half a dozen of the other. LotusX180R
Nice that there is some sort of resolution, but LRGP still isn't Lotus. It's a Renault sponsored by Lotus. But now at least there is a possibility of that team making a chassis called a Lotus. Kudos to TF for finding some kind of satisfying resolution. Even if he was in the right, it seemed to me to be a losing battle. Quote Kyle Kaulback

Even if he was in the right, it seemed to me to be a losing battle. I find all of this quite farcical. I distinctly remember how delighted certain members of the Lotus community were when Fernandes set up Lotus Racing in Hingam after negotiating with MJK and Proton to use the Lotus name in F1. Wasn't his Lotus Racing branded merchandise being sold on this very forum? Now of course you all dislike him and are glad he has "lost" his battle to use the Team Lotus name in F1. Love Fernandes or hate him, you still have to admire his business savvy and the way he plays the game , kind of reminds of how a certain ACBC used to operate. Me, I still support Frank Williams and Williams F1, I dont need a Renault with a Lotus sticker on it to make me feel validated about owning my Lotus. Agreed, there's been far more Lotus spirit in one wheel nut of his Team Lotus than in the entire GL sponsored Renault team. Remember it was TF that put the Lotus name back in F1. Bibs
For his own benefit. They'd be no more than HRT or the other new team if they'd not taken such an iconic name and colour scheme, they'd not have the fans they do and unlikely the sponsors. Remember who has dragged the name through the courts, this is in the Team Lotus history books now. I thought it was great when I first heard about it, enjoyed the early part of the season last year but when they fell out and went legal, I lost a lot of respect for TF for what he had bought about. Bibs
Neither is TF but that's not relevant. Lots of people have jobs where people pay money for them to do stuff. TF re-invigorated Team Lotus for his own benefit and it worked, there was no altruism there. He's now, ultimately given up his pawn in this game for a stake in the national airline. I wonder who suggested that in the hushed meetings in the Malaysian government boardrooms. Team Lotus respond to the Joe Saward blog... “This is not true. Unfortunately some journalists write stories that have no basis in fact and this is one of those. It’s a shame the journalist didn’t come and ask us if what he was about to print was true as we could have spared him the embarrassment of printing such a complete fabrication. Ho hum…. on with the action – FP1 in 13 minutes and that’s what we’re all focusing on right now! 3 hours ago “ Nice to see they give the name the level of reverence it deserves too... LotusX180R
CABC... It's not hard is it... Not sure what this is about. I am inferring you take issue with Saward saying ACBC and that you feel it should be CABC instead. While the size/sequence order on the logo is indeed CABC Mr Chapman's proper name is Anthony Colin Bruce Chapman. Don't really know which is proper, but since I have been a Lotus enthusiast I have always referred to the sequence of letters as ACBC. Yes I remember who dragged the Lotus name embarrasingly through the courts, his name was Dany Bahar , CEO of Group Lotus. LotusX180R
Was this before or after DB came onboard? Before. When DB came on board they found a merchandising infringement and used it as an excuse to pull the rug out from under TF and started sponsoring Renault. Actually it was Litespeed, they were bidding for a 2010 slot, did not get one, but were looking to bring back the Lotus name (presumably with a deal done with David Hunt). This was not supported or sanctioned by Group. Guess who this Norfolk team had retained to design the car......
