Water Pump Leak

I had plans to fit stainless pipe fittings but after dismantling my water pump it may be a wasted effort. Photo shows where the spring corroded away causing a loss of pressure on the carbon and brass seal. I have been changing the coolant as prescribed but can't vouch for the previous owners.

The second photo shows how I extracted the two pipe fittings in the head. They lasted 12 years so I'll just renew them instead of changing to stainless. Any failure is more likely to be the seal spring corroding anyway.

Lesson learnt, ensure use of a quality coolant with rust inhibitors and make sure it isn't left in long enough to degrade.
