hedgerley 440
The new issue of EVO has this update but interestingly they mention some new team members. In July Peter Tutzer joined the team as Technical Director. He is a chassis specialist tasked with designing the 'most elegant and lightweight' suspension design for the new family of V8's. Previously he was responsible for the underpinnings of both the Bugatti Veyron and the Pagani Zonda. Helping him from early 2012 on the Esprit project will be Loris Biococci, test driver behind the veyron, Zonda and Koenigsegg , amongst others. As a statement of intent this is very impressive and you can't fault their ambition. As long as they continue to use Kershaw, Becker et al as well I'll be happy.I really hope it all works out. As EVO says, 'we await the results with baited breath'.
molemot 521
Simon...You have to be careful of house insurance with an artefact like that!! Were it to be worth a large sum, it could cause problems....my cousin had the insurers round on one occasion, and they told him that the old upright piano he'd been left by an old lady down the road was so valuable that it accounted for more than the total declared value of house contents....had he had to claim, it would have got very complicated. So perhaps you should get the treasured poster valued...especially given the provenance. Guest surferphil
Looking good for Lotus if they drop this in the back of an Esprit, I'd expect it to be spot on. Imagine what the old Lotus V8 would have been with a development budget and a decent gear box to fit it to..... 15 years on, they seem to have this one sorted, can't wait to see what the new cars will look like and go like. rogerch 63
So shoot me down. I don't see a V8 configuration as exotic, or exciting, it's a workhorse configuration. Every F1 manufacturer came to the same conclusion V10 was optimum. (before Mosley) I have never been impressed with either Ferrari or Porsche engines, the word agricultural comes to mind. IMO best engine manufacturer is Mercedes, 2nd Toyota, you can argue BMW in there if you wish. I'm probably the only one but I would have been far more reassured with the Toyota/Lexus V10 Quote Life is like a sewer, what you get out of it, depends on what you put into it. jonwat 422
Every F1 manufacturer came to the same conclusion V10 was optimum. (before Mosley) I understood that the reason all F1 engines were V10 is because more cylinders equals more power and the maximum allowed is twelve but twelve makes the engine too long for the aerodynamics & chassis configuration. Therefore next best thing is V10. Quote Cheers, John W http://jonwatkins.co.uk
rogerch 63
No, even Ferrari went from V12 to V10, (much rolling in the Enzo grave) Quote Life is like a sewer, what you get out of it, depends on what you put into it. (Tom Leahrer)
jonwat 422
No, even Ferrari went from V12 to V10, (much rolling in the Enzo grave) Yes, because even though the V12 produced more power, V10 engined cars were faster because V12s were too long. rogerch 63
For the Lexus LFA, the engineers selected a V10 engine over an equivalent displacement V8 engine for its ability to rev higher, and over a V12 for its lower reciprocating mass, allowing for more rapid engine response. Stefan Ertler 1
Well, maybe Lotus wants to leave some room for future developements Never shoot all you bullets on a new product. Quote Mind if I cut in ?
NedaSay 835
I think the era of the V10/V12 is coming to an end except for cars costing in excess of 250k! I love the LF-A engine but I doubt Lexus can be talked into dropping it in the Esprit! I guess DB gave it a shot! However the V8 is supposed to be modular so if I4, V4, V6 and V8 are possible why not V10 or 12?
