Replacement of big end bearings

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks,

My S4s is coming up close to 85,000 miles and has never had the big end bearings done.

I was thinking off romoving the sump and removing one off the BEB caps to see the condition offf the bearings.

Has anyone tried this and how difficult is it?

cheers

Not too difficult.

Drain and remove the sump. Undo the bearing caps, then insert a plasti gauge inbetween the crank journal and bearing, put the bearing and cap back together.

This will flatten the gauge out, this will tell you what the bearing/crank journal clearances are. Just remeber to follow the instruction of the gauge and do not deform it and you will get a correct bearing clearance reading.
