Wheeler Dealers - DeLorean Tonight 9.00pm

Recommended Posts

Our favourite mechanic Edd China gets to work on a DeLorean this evening on the Discovery Channel at 9.00pm or 10.00pm on Discovery +1. Obviously not too be missed. Wonder if he can get in an actually drive the DeLorean after the fun we had trying to squeeze him into an Esprit at the NEC :turned:

Martyn :welcome:

And I thought they had the same transmission as the Steven's Esprit, as does the Renault Alpine V6, but the ones I saw on the shelf at the dealers looked different??

PS Great picture of Ed China Bibs, I see you made him brush his hair before getting close the the Esprit

Let's hope it comes up soon on youtube. The program is always "lightyears" behind on Belgian TV.

15 years ago I already knew, that I must have one in this life. I already have an "OUTATIME" license plate to start with :D You got to start somewhere, no? ;)

Went to visit Edd and Paul at their unit while they working on the car, also met Mike at the show back in June. Great guys, took lots of time to chat with us and had many stories to tell ;)

Yep the D engine is the PRV Douvrin V6 as per the Renault Alpine etc, mated to the the UN1 gearbox as per the Stevens Esprit. The boxes on the shelf at DMC California were the Renault 3 speed automatics. Virtually all the new build cars from DMC Texas are automatics, they are even doing RHD conversions too.

Some pics...

Had Sky installed at my new house yesterday just in time to catch the repeat last night. Always enjoy WD, have used many of Edds tips myself on my car!

Another great episode, looking forward to the one with the Dodge Charger.

This past weekend DMC Texas had an open house with their EV on display, will try and post some pictures next time I am on a computer. That currently makes 3 electric DeLorean's!

Interestingly they also had a brand new body tub , which of course was Lotus designed, on display made with modern materials which is almost half the weight of the origionals! As they still have a set of moulds.

The body dies for the panels were used as weights to hold down fishing nets in Galway bay apparently but there are still a few body molds left, one set were in a farmers field near the lotus factory, may still even be there!

Parts availability is almost 100% with either NOS or new reproduction as DMC Texas own all the OEM technical drawings so reproduce out of stock parts to either original specification or better, here are lots of panels! Notice the DeLorean frame bottom right, look familiar? ;)

A new build DeLorean I believe is around $58k, add another $10k for RHD, base price. Then there are several 'options' like upgraded engines, still using the PRV, in fact they are just about to add their stage 3 PRV upgrade which is supercharged!

Starting with a new' date=' improved design, stainless steel chassis, we use a combination of new old stock (NOS), original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and our line of reproduction parts to create a DeLorean car to your specification. Whether you go “stock” or upgrade to one of our performance engine and suspension packages, other modern amenities including HD and satellite radios, iPod® interfaces, satelllite navigation, and Bluetooth™ connectivity are also available.[/quote']

$57,500 doesn't seem too bad.....

$10,000 RHD cost option though is a bit ouch....

I want one :)

Is the lightweight tub a cost option or will it be new standard fitment? As such will the price go up?

Stainless steep chassis sounds nice and shiny, id guess the original was galvanized like the esprit?

DMC always said the new tubs would be standard on the new builds, so I assume that will be the case in future. They are currently re vamping that section on the web site so no doubt there will be an announcement soon :)

The OEM chassis were made by GKN in Shropshire and were not galvanized but epoxy coated. The DMC company in Holland will take your frame, strip the epoxy, do any repairs needed then galvanize the frame and also powder coat grey to look stock.
