High Energy coil?

I have a HC engine in my S3 with the Lucas Constant Energy System. I am having an intermitent stuter which I am trying to resolve and thought it may well be the coil. So I thought I would just replace the coil as it was not changed in the restoration. My question is with the above system can I use a high energy coil and can anyone recomend a good one. Not really worried about price just want a good one.

I do have uprated leads so I am not worried about that side of it.

Hi Troy - you're not talking about an intermittent ~3000rpm stumble, particularly going from light throttle to open throttle are you?

No mate it is a proper stutter. More like a misfire. I have a fe idea's as to the cause one of which I hope it isn't any of the others aren't a bad

High energy or Sport coils are not compatible with some electonic systems as they draw more current and don't necessarily offer better performance. Stick with one recommended.

When I bought my car I noticed someone had substituted a coil of a Dubious Eastern European Manufacture (cant remember the make as I'd never heard of it before)

As the thing would cough and missfire (especially at higher RPM), I substituted it for the correct Lucas Constant Energy Coil (expensive)

However, it does appear to look exactly the same as Lucas sports coils I have already (silver body, white top) so it might be the same . Sorry I didnt check the serial numbers to see if they are exactly the same.

Toss everything and go w/ a crank triggered system like the Electromotive. Look up their website and see the numerous benefits. I have many trouble- free miles on mine. Lee

I will be swapping over to throttle body injection in the not to distant future so i will loose the dizzy and conxstant energy system anyway. But for now I just want it running sweet. I have found out quite a lot on the constant energy systems. If I get time I will write up a small technical sheet on it to save others in the future reading through over complicated papers for something that in principal is very simple.
