Anyone know the body/chassis mounting locations?

Recommended Posts

Thanks to Bill Snead, I was able to tighten the two loose nut/bolt body-to-chassis mounts in the bonnet that caused the "clunking" noise upon acceleration and deceleration, and during the twisting of the body while ascending and descending the driveway.

The problem is gone for now, but I can't help thinking that if the rest of the body/chassis assembly allowed the front end to move in the first place, there must be other loose areas. I want to go back through the entire vehicle and tighten all the nut/bolt mounting points between the body and the chassis. Could someone please assist by:

1. Identifying all the locations of the body/chassis mount

2. Explaining how to access the nuts and bolts in these locations

3. Giving the correct torquing value for the nuts and bolts

Thank you!

I'll have a go at describing where they are!

The two that you've already found in the front. - Obviously!

There are two either side of the tunnel (4 in total) that are accessed from the interior.

Peel the carpet up from the bottom of the centre tunnel, the forward most bolt is about 1.5 feet back from the end of the footwell. The second is awkward due to the seat being in the way but its near where the seatbelt clip is bolted to the chassis (just infront of it if i remember correctly)

Whilst you are in there struggling to get around the seats......

In the bulkhead behind the seats are another 4 bolts. These are in pairs and run through the plywood bulkhead in metal tubes to the chassis. If you look in the engine bay down the front of the engine you should see the 3 inch wide tabs (which are attached to the chassis) and the nuts on the end of these bolts.

Pretty sure that from inside they are hidden by carpet and also a layer of foam rubber.

Rear most body mounts are level with the front end of the boot floor in either corner. (Does that make sense?!) Again hidden under carpet they run vertically down and through the chassis, the nuts can be seen above the driveshafts from underneath.

Hope this helps, can measure the locations if needed off my own car. Remembering what hides them from view though is a little tricky cos its all been removed!!
