Recommended Posts

Finally got around to ordering some of this for my car, I provided Alfa2Evora's order number so hopefully I get the right match.

So I had a go at sorting my seat today and its a pretty good transformation. However the colour match isnt quite there, those of you who did this, did you mix in some toner to get the colour lighter and a better match?

I didn't mix any toner. I did notice that one area had become darker on the driver's seat near the head rest by the set back release. I colour washed just about the whole seat in addition to the bolster repair and the darkened area which received a bit more attention.

Apologies for the thread revival

Don't apologise, this is a great thread revival and a really useful "service" that I am sure many owners will thank you for.

I recently took the back seat from my S1, in charcoal grey, to Gliptone/Staingard as I was struggling to find a sample to snip off and send in (another advantage of the +2, Haha!). So for anyone else with the charcoal interior, Gliptone should now be able to provide the relevant colour match. I did emphasise to John that he should keep a note a note of the colour for future customers,  failing that he should remember the guy that brought the Lotus seat in and he did the colour match at 15.00 07/06/21. I bought a 60ml bottle of Scuffmaster for £24.

I haven't had a chance to do the front bolsters yet but, while there John put some on a part of the back seat that had previously been"overpolished" (not by me), leaving a white residue. Result: the white residue is gone and the colour is bang on.

I'll try and put up some before and after pics when I've done the front bolsters.

That’s fantastic even I could attempt that however I think as I need my dash replacing etc the interior specialist guy might else well do the seats which need fixing on the backs but also repairs as scuffs you sorted

That looks great, need to do pretty much my entire drivers seat as it looks like it was re-coloured by a previous owner and the colour match isn't very good.

Do you have a colour code or any ordering information so that I can get exactly the same stuff Dave?

Cheers.

Craig.

Hi Craig, if you give Karen Williams at Staingard a shout as per the contact details in my earlier post (15th June) she will be able to send you some - probably without needing to send a sample of the leather as I’ve done that.  My order number was 142258.

Thanks for the info Dave. I spoke to Karen and it appears they don't keep a colour record but work from samples. I thought they might use RAL colour charts. As they returned your sample with your order I will send another to get the colour match.

I will ask her to keep it on file as Lotus Oyster so hopefully anyone who contacts them in future will be able to quote that.

I will report back with before and after photos when the order arrives.

Maybe it's certain colors they don't have record of, but Karen was able to find the original formula for the Paprika dye. It was an exact match for my seats:

For anyone who’s interested in the dye for charcoal grey leather, Staingard now have a swatch, hopefully that’ll help others with repeat orders (and thanks to Redwing for answering my queries before ordering). Before-and-after photos attached following a scuff caused by a zip, along with invoice details; should save a fair few bob and hassle compared to paying someone else to do it.

I’m a massive fan of their Scuffmaster dye. I bought some to refinish the light mushroom colour side bolster on my old classic Merc SL, which was worn right through to the bare leather in an area about the size of my hand.
The finished result was astonishing and you really couldn’t see where it had been worn. I sold that car 6 years on and the seats still looked as good as new.
There aren’t many DIY car finishes you can get which are that good.

Got my order a couple of weeks ago and finally managed to do my drivers seat.

Very impressed and despite having done the whole seat have plenty left. They kept my sample on file so anyone asking for Oyster for a Lotus Evora should get a good match.
