Could new Ford 1.0 litre engine be perfect in the Elise?

Just read a review of Ford's tiny but punchy (and apparently sexy sounding!) new engine in the Focus. I would imagine it is comparatively light so do you think it would make the Elise even more efficient yet still very driveable?

I'd like to see them do a version with their range extender engine. Maybe placing some of the batteries forward to get closer to a 50/50 weight balance and two electric motors to vary torque to left / right wheels when cornering. Show Tesla how it should have been done.

Trying and failing to get excited

Yeah definitely not as the only engine option, but my thinking was that it could be an entry level model that would reduce the entire ranges CO2 output. Cheaper to bring to market and less controversial than a citycar such as the Ethos/Cygnet

That would be really interesting!

Standard build S1 Elises (my wifes) and early standard build S2s were only 118 bhp out of the 1800 Rover unit Buddsy. Like Simon says if Ford did a 2 litre version that would be more interesting.

Power: 123bhp at 6000rpm; Torque: 125lb ft

Impressive for a 1 litre, if they made a 2 litre v or straight 6 I could feign interest

The 1.6ltr in the later Elise is not that much more powerful maybe 10 or 11bhp

With the weight saving over the 1.6 engined Elise probably a better bet for future CO emissions
