I have to say that I'm increasingly confused by Lotus sponsoring cars and teams they have nothing to do with. In F1 there is a value to growing the relationship with the Enstone team and the chassis will now be developed as a Lotus one, in Indycar they will be using a Lotus branded engine and some aero mods created by Lotus Racing, I'm also pleased to see Lotus competing in GT racing with versions of the Evora and the rally Exige is interesting.

However the LMP2 car, go-kart, GP2, GP3 and now F3 are all stretching the brands credibility. If they were to become the new engine or chassis supplier in one of these series it would be really good, but I'm not sure how much this exercise raises Lotus' profile and for enthusiasts its difficult to be enthusiastic about "some car" in Lotus stickers. I think they should focus on F1, probably Indycar whilst it makes financial sense and customer programmes, and if they want to add to this have the drivers from Genii's Gravity Driver Managaement programme wear Lotus sponsorship decals on their overalls.

Ok too much sponsoring is killing the message... This sponsoring is pointless! Why not find a few good teams to race the Evora GT cars in VLN instead? I think it would be just has good for advertising! But who am I to criticize! I wonder how much will be blown on sponsoring this year?

I can understand your points, but the German car market is the largest in Europe and Lotus has almost not position in it. The Evora is one of the least sold cars in Germany, competing with such great brands as Lada.

Every dealer here is frustrated about the lack of marketing that Lotus has done here and at the same time the current dealers aren't really positioned to sell any of the new cars.

Positioning Lotus in the racing scene is certainly a good message and sponsoring a DTM-Team certainly wouldn't have fit to Lotus at all.

I think DB would like to think Lotus are competing with Porsche rather than Lada, but I take your point!

I've got a friend in Germany a long time Porker owner, while he respects Lotus for their racing pedigree and hardcore approach he'd never consider owning one as a daily drive. To him they're track day toys, something for purists and not a serious mode of transport. It'll take a long time to change that perception and crack the German market.

Currently having an illicit affair with another marque, be back in the fold one day... B-)
