Gold FFM mayevora Posted April 7, 2012 Gold FFM Report Share Posted April 7, 2012 Why does this complete cock think it amusing to ruin the last 12 months training of two teams of dedicated sportsmen and women as well as the 1000's of viewing public lining the Thames route and worldwide TV audiences. I can now remember this happening in The Grand National, an F1 race, the Tour de France, The London Marathon, a World Title Heavyweight Boxing match (where a paraglider landed in the ring) as well as numerous Football and Cricket games. Can anything actually be done to stop a cockfest happening at all these Sporting events or do we now live in an accepting world where cocks can demonstrate their pointless cause to the watching millions? Personally I would have prefered it if he had been injured today as well as all the cocks who jump out in front of Race Horses and F1 cars. As I understand it, I think it is just a 'puplic order' offence. No idea what this actually means really - probably a £200 fine or 25 hours community service. Heaven help the forthcoming Olympics. MPx
It made my blood boil. It had been such a good race to over half way. Oxford just starting to look like they might take it around the last bend and had a canvas up on Cambridge. Then tosspot spoils and stops the race. Slightly odd decision to go so far back for a restart. Took far too long - both crews looked like they were freezing. They restarted level (why?), then there was the clash and a broken oar, gift to Cambridge and no racing. End of - I walk out disgusted. How many lives that guy has made a bit poorer today? Must run to millions. Its hard to understand why/how anyone would get off on that... molemot
The Umpire being a Cambridge man obviously had no bearing on his decisions....(!) As soon as the decision was made to start the race again from further downstream, with all the dreadful wash and turbulence created by the passage of the supporting fleet of powerboats, there was only ever going to be another disaster. The Umpire should have bellowed "ROW ON!!" as soon as the oik's head popped up behind the racing boats. What the crews thought of being asked to race in such water conditions I don't know...especially since there was no need...but they shout loudly enough at motor boats if they dare to make half and inch of wash. A great shame that all the participants have had the climax of their university rowing careers ruined by one idiot in the water and one idiot as Umpire...as, be they the Oxford crew or the Cambridge crew, it cannot possibly be a fulfilling and satisfactory result. Bibs
Shocking. I hope that the reason they've not said who he was trying to raise awareness of is to make a point that ruining the day of potentially millions of people isn't the correct way to protest. andydclements
A newspaper stated he is protesting anti-elitism. By combining that with his chosen venue we can deduce he believes none of us should be better educated, better trained, more driven etc than any other human, does that not seem to go against evolution? molemot
Profile: Trenton Oldfield The swimmer who disrupted the Oxford Cambridge Boat Race is named as Trenton Oldfield, an Australian activist who claimed the stunt was 'an act of civil disobedience'. 560 315 TelegraphPlayer_9192052 8:40PM BST 07 Apr 2012 222 Comments Trenton Oldfield lives in a 1930s apartment block in Whitechapel, east London, and graduated from London School of Economic. He is also a fellow Royal Society of Arts. His LinkedIn profile claims he has worked and volunteered for a variety of charities, trusts and community organisations. He once worked as a coordinator for the Thames Strategy project, set up to regenerate the landscape around the river from Kew to Chelsea. In 2007, with fellow activist Deepa Naik, he formally established This Is Not A Gateway, a not-for-profit organisation that has set out to 'inject a criticality into discussions about cities via creating a platform for existing, though overlooked multi-disciplinary critical actors and provocateurs' In 2009 they established Myrdle Court Press to publish the work of critical urbanists from around the world. According to the RSA's social network page, Trenton Oldfield is 'currently researching the socio-political history of fenced green spaces in London for a forthcoming book'. On LinkedIn, Mr Oldfield describes himself as: ‘Open-minded, multi-disciplinary, efficient, focused, intelligent, honest, unique.’ Shortly before taking to the water Mr Oldfield posted a manifesto online. Entitled Elitism Leads to Tyranny, he declared: "This is a protest, an act of civil disobedience, a methodology of refusing and resistance. "This act has employed guerrilla tactics. I am swimming into the boats in the hope I can stop them from completing the race." In his manifesto, Mr Oldfield said he was targeting the boat race because of its elitist nature – saying it went past Fulham Palace, a former royal residence, St Paul's, the leading public school, and the London home of Nick Clegg, the Deputy Prime Minister, who he attacked for being educated at public school. The above was culled from the Telegraph. This bloke must be the most elite non-elitist ever.....equivalent to the "Champagne Socialists". His manifesto is the raving utterings of a madman. Guest surferphil
Hope he gets sued. I also think it's long over due that we exercise our right to deport foreign nationals with a 'no return' control on them when they brake the law. Seize his assets too. What really annoys me about these 'protesters' is their actions are purely self serving and dictatorial. It's totalitarianism.

basalte
His actions have all the features of childish middle-class egomania posing as socially-aware protest. A shame really since there is a valid point to be made about grossly unequal patterns of power, opportunity and privilege based purely on wealth not talent. He will be out in 12 weeks and we will all share the costs. We live in crazy times. I agree deportation would have been my number one choice but as it didn't happen I would say the opposite - money very well spent. In fact if they want any donations to keep him there, happy to contribute. Sends out the strongest message and I bet a pound to a penny, it won't happen next year. Same as the Leeds fan who came on to the pitch and attacked this goal keeper last night. 6 month automatic custodial sentence for this would stop it happening. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20012421 Yes, demonstrating your pointless cause is different from assaulting somebody but hand out a few prison sentences for pitch invasions and it won't happen anymore.
