One question I always had about Oil Pressure...How low is too low for an SE Esprit? It's been very hot here this weekend and my oil pressure fell to 1.5 bars on the highway! It's never been that low....I suspect it's because I am running my winter oil (5W40 Synthetic)...I am going to change it to Mobil-1 15W50 this weekend just to be safe. Last summer I dont remember the oil pressure being this low - and I also run the same oil in my Saab 900SE turbo...wonder what sort of damage I am doing there.

At what point should one shut off the engine to prevent damage?

The manual says .34 (5psi)bar no less at idle hot, 2.4 bar at(35psi) at 3.5K rpm and should be at 3.1(45psi) at 6500rpm.

Last yaar my car was running just below 1 bar (around 0.8) on hot days at idle. This causes the oil pressure light to come on at 'Take Off' which was not pleasing. I changed the oil from 5-40 to 15-50 and now does not go below 1 bar.

But as Arite said - the manual states that pressure should not drop below .34 ish (which is well into the red on the gauge) so all in all nothing really to worry about. :)
