esprits4de
I only got the Turbo today !!!!! It will be fitted to the car around mid March. I'll probably have her back by April. :crybaby: Once I stop having wet dreams only and have some driving experience I will post all data !! Promise. Drfatz
I just came across this thread and am also looking to install a new turbo in my 1990 SE. With that said I am upgrading the fuel pump, primary and secondary injectors, charge cooler and pump, and also the memcal. I am thinking about the Garrett GT3071R turbo has anyone used this before on their car? How dose it compare to the WC stage II? Cheers, Graham

Drfatz
Hey Olaf what did the WC Stage II cost you? I am considering the Garrett GT3071R but then I need to fabricate up pipes for an external waste gate which will get pricey. The nice thing about the WC turbos is they bolt right up!. -Graham Graham, just about what I am doing, except the CC.

Both of the them are twin-scroll hot sides, and appropriate to fit the T3 flanged, factory pulse manifold. On that note... Internally gated, twin scroll turbine housings seem to be made from un-obtanium. Evo VIII's come with a factory twin scroll, internally gated turbo, but the exhaust inlet ports on the turbine housing are not side-to-side, as in the T3 twin scrolls. They are offset 45degrees in the flange. happy hunting, Craig Quote "Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. Drfatz
The GT3267 and 71 are sweet turbos, but they only seem to come with journal bearings instead of ball bearings. The GT3267 - 452233 - 5 is also internally gated, twin scroll, but, again would need a BB CHRA http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarre...67_452233_5.htm Edited March 5, 2007 by Htown Quote "Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. I thought I found a twin scroll, water cooled, internal wastegate, with ball bearing, turbo that looked like it would be perfect for the Lotus up to about 420hp once. No idea which it was now though... Yeah what about this one? http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarre...T30/GT3071R.htm it is turbine compatible with a bunch of others, surely one is twin scroll? esprits4de
When I was looking for alternatives this Garret was the only one to suit the demand, but was by no means plug'n play : http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarre...R_700382_20.htm Great Turbo, when comparing the flow and efficency data the WC Eng. Drfatz
Well I am planning to make a custom 3" exhaust for it including a new down pipe and cat which should help with backpressure. esprits4de
A defective, almost brand new, Garret wastegate capsule has caused distress whilst testing. Once I get the chance to drive the car in the next week( I hope ) I shall post a very descriptive mod, especially on the unexpected subjects encountered. Even though I did not do the conversion myself ( would have ended up with a big glob of metal probably...) finding the right setup was not easy afterall. esprits4de
Verrrry close to 400BHP.....Still a few little technical things to sort out. First impression, perma-grinn, it pulls so hard on the chassi, now the need for a new suspension and bushes emerges.... I'll post next week, after some more driving and fixing a coolant leak... Riddlemr2
Still a little unclear Olaf - which turbo did you select? Do you have any pictures of the turbo installed on your car? I was strongly considering the 3071R for my old MR2, but went with T3/T4 SC50 and a TiAl wastegate. It seems that an internal wastegate is essential for the Esprit so I am anxious to learn more about your turbo. Thanks -Dave Edited April 29, 2007 by Riddlemr2
Paula&Marcus
Hi Olaf, I'm still curious about the torque power band. How does this WC turbo perform low down and in midrange ? The reason why I ask is the fact that I worked along with Steffen (who provided me with the specs/details of the whole setup) and I wrote the new chip/maps for your car. Honestly, the turbo specs/data were a bit odd, thats why I'm asking. Cheers Marcus Verrrry close to 400BHP.....Still a few little technical things to sort out. We ended up using a modified Sport300 chip, Sport300 spec FPR, and one of the aluminum wastegate capsules. From what I can tell Steffen had about 370 BHP with your chip and now we assume to have just below 400. Steffen quoted that the car now has the bashing drive. From my POV the car is set up perfectly for street use ! In the range 1500-3500 Rpm the power comes from the guts, nice solid pull, perfect for whipping around in the city and normal traffic. Approaching the 4000 RPM mark one can tell that the car wants to chew that asphalt, thereafter hell breakes loose at 1,25-1,35 bar pressure on the turbo. Although we do not have a torque/BHP dyno yet, my feeling ist that the power levels off a little at 6500 RPM, but still there is this certain desire to hit 7000 or 7200. ( I have not done that yet....still scared ! ) Kidding, I had a sequential shift light installed by Steffen which yellow lights at 6500 RPM, so I have not pushed it yet.... The car drives really well and I like the achieved values... the car deserves it... Later this week I will post the full mod list...abit of everything.. cheers. Paula&Marcus
Hi Olaf, JFYI, I made 3 different chips for your car. Also the one based on the S300 code. Unless you took the one John Welch provided (which was horrible with your setup, IMHO) you definitely now have one from me in your car I hope you donot feel uncomfortable with it. I'm very happy that you like the performance, though Cheers Marcus Hi Marcus, yes I know that you had written one chip/map for the car. esprits4de
Marcus, I feel comfortable with the chip coming from you, as I know from Steffen who writes up all the non std codes... As you know I have started the discussion on the variable parameter code a few weeks ago, still interested in such. About the setup in my car,.., seems to have a certain "christine" individuality...kind a bitchy....feels good though. Hi Olaf, JFYI, I made 3 different chips for your car.
