It is an extraordinary phenomenon. An experience I will never forget is eating my lunch for 30 minutes whilst sat in my car in a supermarket car park and just watching the coming and going of vehicles - it was enough to put you off parking anywhere ! The best was an elderly gent who , despite copious free space elsewhere, decided to park his driver side right up close to another vehicle and then proceeded to struggle for about 5 minutes to squeeze himself out of the partially opened door in the very limited gap he had left himself. Defies any logical explanation.

Whilst at Tesco pushing the trolley back to the car, two maybe 5/6 year old kids ran past racing each other back to their car, the parents who were a few metres behind me pressed the fob to unlock the doors of their newish people carrier, and sure enough the leading child flung open the rear door into my wife's car, actually denting it. The parents saw what had happened, saw me looking at the damage, and just continued to load their shopping into their car.

Let's just say, I think that family may think twice the next time they open their doors. The lesson about respect for others property was only verbal, but very intense, they did get away without paying for it though.

And because we took away the powers of the Police, and teachers (though they really havenot helped themselves) and parents, to really deal with these little shits, they thought it was Ok to be chavvie little toerags and that nobody would ever pull them up for it.

The level of "chavness" that has developed over the past 10 years in the UK is unreal. It's quite sickening seeing these chavs walking aorund like the world owes them a living, they own the place etc. I mean, half of them can't even pull their fooking kecks up around their waist so all you see is their shit stained Klines and bum crack. WTF! Then you've got the girls who walk around all oranged up, with huge lips and eyelashes, and bum jobs that makes them look as though they have a space hopper down each side of their knickers.  I just don't get it....  Maybe I just need to go and find a cave to live in on a remote island.

It's even worse here in Scotland. Fathom this out:

SNP Government reduces the age of voting to 16 as young people are responsible and need to have a say (nothing of course to with the fact that more young people are in favour of Independence as we changed the school curriculum to indoctrinate them to that that way).

Then, Scottish Government says that peoples brains are not fully developed until they are 25, so those under 25 get sentence guidlines that say that are not fully responsible for their actions, as their brains do not develop fully until age 25, they should get reduced and easier sentences. As a result a man under 25 who rapes a 13 year old gets a non custodial sentence of 270-hour community payback!!! The same guy over 25 would have got a custodial sentence of 4-5 years.

I mean, if you wrote this in a fiction novel you'd be ridiculed. What I really want to know is where are the press, where is the real journalism, that is joining the dots here and asking our nuts Government some serious hard questions, and demanding some serious, no nonsense or brush away answers, to expose just how disconnected from reality the Government here really is. It's not hard to do, the stuff is out there. Some journalist just needs to be bothered enough to go ask the hard questions.

That's a total bullshit remark @Bibs re "parents can still beat their kids at will in England". They can't (well they can, anywhere, not just in England, but usually they will get sentenced for it). And the news article you posted explicitly says they can't as children are protected by law against abuse which "beating" them would be. 

Now we get to the symantics of it all. Is a slap to the arse of a child (who is clothed) abuse or a chastisement. My view it is the latter and it never did my kids any harm on the odd occasion it was warranted. A slap to the arse still, to me, is not abuse but of course living in Scotland, even if I just look angry at a child it feels it could line me up in Prison!

Now, slapping a child across the face, on the head, is an absolute no no. End of. As is using any instrument (brush, belt, slipper etc). Vigorously shaking a child - no way. Throwing a child into a wall etc. No way.

There will always be parents who go too far, but as usual, they will be the minority. And as usual, the minority has a major impact on what the decent, sensible, majority are allowed to do. So we dumb everything down to the point where kids are now fearless and taunt police, teachers, and parents that "you can't touch me or I'll get you sent to prison yadda yadda".

We reap what we sow.

I was smacked as a child and I smacked my kids as well.

I'm fine and so are all my kids. A slap on the butt and getting grounded teaches you consequence. These days a child confined to their room either gets on the internet on their computer or on their phone.

I'd be taking everything off them so they were indeed isolated. That in no way is detrimental to a child. Probably good for them, truth be told.

What bothers me about taking 2 spaces and why I never do it myself, besides being obviously asocial, is the fact that while there may be plenty of space when you park, that might not be the case by the time you get back. At work, I always arrive at an almost empty parking lot, but by noon it's usually quite full.

There's a clip about 2 guys with lifted Jeeps who block a Merc taking up 2 spaces so he could only enter his car through the boot. He was lucky it was a stationwagon!

I've actually had 2 people hit my car in a parking lot while I was still in it. First time was with my Defender, so clearly his loss! The BWM ended up with a dent in the bumper shaped like a mud terrain tyre.
Second time unfortunately with the Esprit... Just a few scratches, and he did fess up and pay for the repair (which I still need= to get done...).

My wife was so embarrassed by the situation that she pleaded for me to leave. It probably was embarrassing tbh.

People with 'bump strips' tend to think that's OK to just open their door onto other cars.

I also get astounded by people who think it's OK to 'rest' the car door on another car. They open in deliberately into the neighboring car door so that it stays there and then happily go about jumping in and out of the car. That's how you get those annoying vertical scratches.

For some reason, non-car people don't seem to consider someone's car as valuable, it's really frustrating to see people having no respect for someone else's property. I'm even careful around clapped out bangers that are on their last legs - it's someone's car, they've spent money on that, treat it with some respect!

Actually, you used to be able to get those. There was a car near me that every time you walked past it, it would loudly announce that you should step back from the car. Don't know how it worked but it was bleeding annoying, so I suspect they are banned by now!
