Guest surferphil
No, I'm sorry but this is speculation about an in depth partnership of Honda and Lotus, based on a press realise that does not mention or refer to Lotus in any way. He writes of the inevitable cancellation of the Esprit and it's only possible savoir being Honda; with whom there is no reference or fact to back up a platform sharing collaboration. I have no problem with speculation when it's presented as such but not as factual information; that lacks integrity when enthusiasts read this and treat it as fact, this is how the rumours and gossip spread. "Likewise the Esprit was designed as part of a five-model offensive (platform sharing in practice within Lotus), but with that no longer being feasible, the Esprit was more than likely to be canned (despite what they optimists have been saying) unless Lotus could find a way of sharing its development with another car maker. If Lotus and Honda are now able to collaborate, the volumes offered by an NSX platform could once again make the new Esprit feasible – provided Lotus’ turnaround plan is agreed by the company’s lenders"To hopefully avoid any misunderstanding of my perspective, I have little respect for the internet press or 'news' agencies in general. It may seem like I am being hard on this particular article but that isn't the case, it's purely because people have read this as fact and I don't think the writer has gone far enough to distinguish between the factual and fictional content of the article. To be fair, he states very little of the effect on Lotus as fact. "The Esprit was more than likely to be canned." "If Lotus and Honda are now able to collaborate....could once again make the new Esprit feasible." "...this is the first sign that Lotus might have a future." That all seems pretty guarded to me and far from a definite statement of fact. Guest surferphil
You deliberately quoted me and removed the full quote from Skiddmark adding in a cut down quote to make it say what you wanted it to. This is pathetic.

Guest surferphil
No, the forum software removes quotes embedded in quotes automatically. Try it, you'll see. It wasn't the removal of the quotes that I found pathetic, it was cutting down the quote from Skiddmark to falsely represent it in a attempt to discredit my point of view. As John clearly demonstrates, the use of the " symbol is a sufficient replacement for the 'quote /quote' code.

TBD
From the dress release its pretty obvious DRB needed a partner, and now Honda, to save their Proton investment. At the that level it makes sense, but but I would guess they weren't even thinking about Lotus at the time. All this speculation, and both by Skiddmark and us here is just gazing in a crystal ball. USAndretti42
You deliberately quoted me and removed the full quote from Skiddmark adding in a cut down quote to make it say what you wanted it to. This is pathetic. Like Bibs said, the software removed the quote from your quote. So I typed in the relevant parts from the quote. I don't think what I left out changed the meaning at all. You tell me what bits Skiddmark misleadingly presented as fact. Rather than trying to discredit your point of view I was merely disagreeing with your interpretation. Guest surferphil
Trevor, if you cannot understand what is going on or how to debate then there is no point me continuing to try and explain. We are obviously coming from entirely different understandings of something so fundamental.

Gus82
A new Lotus Esprit twinned with a Honda NSX sounds incredible. It would increase the chance of both companies making money on the car, the V6 works with the new F1 rules (some rumors of a Honda f1 return: Lotus-Honda F1 team?). Would secure Lotus' car making future and who knows it could spawn a smaller slightly more affordable sportscar that would still be profitable I read there is growing frustration at Honda that Toyota and Nissan are increasingly being viewed as the Japanese enthusiasts brand of choice. NSX on the Evora platform anyone? I think Honda have been working on the new NSX for some time, and I doubt they would want to base the car on a bought in 5 year old platform for image reasons. working on the new platform with an iconic company like Lotus however might be another kettle of fish entirley! hedgerley
TF only ever intended to see the team through the first couple of years before he went on the hunt for an experienced team manager. He was always about developing a road car business, which he thought he would do with Lotus but is now happy with Caterham. As he has said, he is about doing deals, not finding tenths of a second. Apparently someone from the current F1 pack has been appointed. Announcement imminent. http://www.autosport...t.php/id/104084 Edited November 6, 2012 by hedgerley
NedaSay
Even if their on track results have been less than impressive -especially this year - I have to say that the way they have developed from the team born as Lotus Racing now Caterham F1 and Group of companies is impressive! Caterham Grand Prix (GP2) has been a solid contender all season long Caterham Cars has had an okay year in terms of sales Caterham T.I is developing at a very fast pace and this deal with Renault is very interesting TF and his crew have done pretty much what they said they would do on the side business of thing. Now Mark Smith and his crew do really have to make a mega step forward next season!
