DarrylV8
Tony, I respect what you say, and agree; What people tend to forget about the V6 Exige issue (and many engineers I know at Lotus have confirmed this) is that, yes money was a factor for DRB on finally getting this out, but only because of the fact that it was released way before it was finished. Since removing the scoop plus having a bigger engine in than was originally intended (4 cyl 1.8) and enclosing the rear they suffered from overheating issues. We were seriously looking to purchase the V6 Cup and when speaking to LMS I stated that we would actually want the GRP slatted lid/cover apart from saving weight the V6 would have looked extremely good when parked next to our Esprit (S3 Turbo) the V6 still had to come down the production line before LMS got the car to work on/convert to Cup Track/Race! Bib's whilst I appreciate the dealers/Lotus can sell the Exige, if the car can't be produced (for what ever reason) then they can't be sold, having £5K deposit surely does not constitute having a sale? Unless cars can be pre-registered before going through the factory gate? Although our next car unfortunately won't be a Lotus (and yes we were hoping to be able to boast having a 2010, 2011 & 2012 brand new Lotus) we want to purchase a new Lotus 2013/2014 although this does depend on what Lotus have to offer "Evora GTE, light weight Exige V6 or even an Esprit" Guy (MR 10TUS) please keep us informed. Yes that's probably "good night from me" Quote Darryl & Sue Proud to drive and own since new a true British supercar the Evora GT430
Guy Munday
Hi Darryl, I will, of course, keep you informed but the dealers are as much in the dark about future plans, at present. I was at the factory last week and there does, at last, appear to be some pilot build Exiges moving down the new line. Fingers crossed. MHC
Rumour going around in Malaysia is that DRB has picked a Japanese automaker as a strategic partner for Proton Holdings. No comment in the press as to what that means for Lotus, but might have an impact. Perhaps Toyota will soon be coming back in to favour with Hethel. hedgerley
Yet another rumour, this time mooting a tie up between Lotus and Aston Martin. They have form of course, during the development of the first Vanquish and the original version of Aston's VH platform. http://rumors.automobilemag.com/lotus-on-life-support-could-it-merge-with-aston-martin-178991.html I wonder how many permutations we will see before we get any firm news from DRB. This endless drift is really frustrating.
Guest surferphil
Hopefully the firm news will be here's the V6 Exige and its finished to an exceptionally high standard. I think any other announcement will be a waste as this is the only one that counts for the future of Lotus, they have to get this car right and then build on that. Iconic Ride
Michael (ramjet) has never been one to purposely throw fuel on a fire. And certainly not when it might cause unintended difficulties with the brand image of his favourite marque. He has always been up front about admitting when he's in the dark on a specific subject. I think he was just looking to open up the discussion on an engineering issue that is already in the public domain. And hell yeah, the Honda agreement has tremendous potential to move things forward. DanR
I'm not a moderator so it should be ok for me to re-iterate what Michael said . British cars have had a bad history of overheating in this country. It used to be common in summer to see many Jags stopped on the highways with their bonnet open and letting off steam. Not just Jags, but others too, Range Rovers and even some Esprits come to mind. Edited October 29, 2012 by DanR Quote DanR
hedgerley
A thoughtful consideration of the recent 'good news' emanating from last weeks Autoexpress article. http://skiddmark.com/2012/10/drb-hicom-and-lotus/ Just a thought on the Honda tie up - what does that mean for new Esprit with the NSX arriving next year? NedaSay
So the breakeven is now only 2000 cars per year! Isn't that number the anticipated sales volume for the Evora alone from MJK's plan back in 2009?!! Kimbers
Don't know what they are going to do for the Oz V6 exiges, but if they are getting overheating issues in the UK with the car, it'll be a darn site worse over here. In Mikes Defence that was my statement. Even if you (unintentionally) repeat the same message twice it becomes no more truthful. We've all heard these rumours, but so far no one has had hard facts to confirm any of this. Even if it's true, its a technical issue that can be solved by any half brained engineer. It is truthful, it's not a rumour. I live a mile away from the factory and have many friends working there. Why would I "Spread a rumour"? I was replying to someone asking why the V6 Exige wasn't out yet and why it was delayed. I asked an Engineer at the factory and thats what he told me. You also need a supply of funds to develop or finish development on a new car, something which we all know is in short supply right now. However I'm also sure they have been working on it and hopefully we will see them rolling off the line very soon. Please! The fact you're a moderator and still sprout this rubbish worries me, wouldn't it be better to quash it or at least quantify it with evidence - do you think it helps in any way a small automotive company in Norfolk? Do people just sit at home making this sort of crap up? The Exige S runs twin oil coolers and half it's tail gate is open with grilles! The back isn't open. Previous Management insisted it was fully enclosed with glass. Mikes evidence was that I said it and I like to think, especially as I back the company 100%, that he and others here believe what I say. It's not all doom and gloom, it's not rubbish it's merely a fact that it was delayed till the car was right and ready for customers. I like to think it's a good thing as it shows that DRB want satisfied customers and product that is ready to go and be reliable. Lets get this straight. I totally 100% support the new Management in what they are trying to do and was merely explaining why the car is delayed. I don't know why it's not an easy fix, I'm not an Engineer, but for it to be delayed there must be an issue. TBH I'm pretty sure the car was announced too quickly before development had been finished. But I suspect the previous Management needed a good news story. Either way indications (previous posts here) are that it should be rolling off the line soon. And I want one!! Quote Possibly save your life. Kimbers
Regularly. Infact here's me thinking: Thats hardly massive in comparison to the whole back being open. On my Exige the whole back was a light mesh which allowed the engine to breathe properly. It's not 100% the issue there are several....or were, but you know what I'm like with technical stuff the Engineer started to mention mechanically stuff and I heard "LALALALALALALALALALALA". Stirling_Villeneuve
I thought that, made me wonder how good the Evora's cooling was... an hour spent averaging 10mph on the M25 put pay to any concerns in that dept, the temperature never moved! It seems there's more vents and grills on the back of the Exige than the Evora too. Quote Currently having an illicit affair with another marque, be back in the fold one day...
