Alpine replacement (again) - Interior/Exterior/Lights/Glass/Alarms/ICE/HVAC/Other - The Lotus Forums Jump to content

Recommended Posts

Having just done a 500 mile road trip in the Evora, and had the following fun with the Alpine:

Phone not syncing properly so the phonebook doesn't work.

ipod interface crashing after 3 songs and refusing to work for the rest of the journey.

The only way I found to turn off the audio directions on the sat nav is to reduce the nav volume down to zero. Yet, it still mutes the radio at the point it should be saying something! Every roundabout and junction was met with a dip in radio volume…

It has to go, i've never used a car stereo as bad as this, and this is supposed to be better than the original Alpine :D

I've had a search but can't find a conclusive answer, I have the Alpine IVA-W520R which doesn't' have the blackbird module, can I just pull the head unit and replace it with something else? I have a reversing camera that I want to keep working, and I have the premium and tech pack so have the uprated stereo system.

All I want to do is buy a good unit, pull the Alpine and replace it without pulling apart the dash. Can I do that?

Thomas installed a system with built in TomTom in his car, I don't recall him finding it hard work.

I had the Sony XNV-L66BT installed by my local car audio specialist. It did seem to be a pain in the neck to install, but all went very well. I sold the Alpine on ebay and was able to recover most of my cost.

I think I have the same Alpine as yours and once better acquainted to using it I am happy to leave it in the car. The radio mutes as the nav is trying to tell you something so it's a case of switching that off. If you get down to the Ace Cafe for the lotus meet we might be ble to help and save you replacing it.

Is there anyway of switching off the nav voiced directions, but keeping the screen directions? I can turn down the volume, but that still mutes the radio, as you mentioned. I just want to turn off any annoying voices :)

I'll have a look in the morning but there is a nav mix which I think may well do that if you turn it down.

In that case you have to turn off the Nav.
