Getting to and from Norfolk

Recommended Posts

Morning all.

Noticed a post regarding meeting up for the trip up here and it made me think about getting into and out of Norfolk & Norwich. I average 40k per annum up and down these roads so know them pretty well, however if I missed something please feel free to add in.

Those in the know, great, those not please check your route (nearer the time obviously).

1. From the Sth East - Kent area. M25 to A12 (sorry but long way round for M11 even though it is the best route). Nasty Drive up A12 and A140 Ipswich to Norwich Road. WARNING. The A140 went all 40 mph and 50 mph for 3/4 of it's route a year or 2 ago. It's dotted with speed camera's. Yes thats right, one of the main trunk roads into Norfolk is now 40-50mph.

2. South - M25 to M11 to A14 & A11. Believe me this is the fastest route from anywhere south. Ignore the A140/A12 for above reasons. Watch out for the new speed camera just as you come off the A11 section that meets the A14 round Newmarket (Just before you join the A11 again). Likewise watch out for the NON POLICE MARKED camera van that WILL BE ON THE A11. It starts at Wymondham early, then on to Attleborough, East Harling & Thetford and then Returns on opposite side of Carriageway. They are so sneaky that it will be parked normally on a bridge with no junction and it's Yellow with yellow lights on the roof (nice hey! Not money gathering my butt).

3. West - A14 from Midlands/M1 then as above. First section of A14 is great, just one speed camera. Second section after Huntingdon !BEWARE!, keep to 70 mph as there are camera's everywhere....though noticed yesterday someone had torched one :)

4. North West - My suggestion would be down to A14 on M6 then as above.

5. North/North East - Don't be tricked by looking at a map and thinking Wow I can go A1 then A17 and A47. Yes you can and it's the shortest route, but like the A140 it is partly 50mph and with lots of Camera's. Then the A47 is a total nightmare and would average about 40mph (once you've got past all the tractors and Asda lorries). My suggestion is A1 down to the A14 after Peterborough turn off and then as above.

Hope thats helpful

As another point to note, with the Police knowing we are coming I'd like to think that they will trust us to drive carefully, as I'm sure we all will but please be extra aware and don't speed. It's not big, it's not clever and I don't want anyone getting in trouble with the law. :)

NORTH WEST

Being from the North West (Preston) I thought I'd fire out my current plan for getting to the Hotel as a starter.

09:45 - Join M6 J29

11:00 - M6 J14 - Possibly meet NMEG Boys here

12:00 - Join A14 from end of M6

13:00 - Join A11 from A14

13:45 - Arrive at Hotel

Obviously this is just a working guide but should put me at the Hotel around 2pm, if that early enough ? I dont want to miss any of the action :) .

So basically, anyone not coming from the north is best served by going the M11 route? (as its only 15 minutes aways from the A12 on the M25)

Carl,

Looks good. NMEG will probably meet at Hilton Park services on the M6 rather than jct 14. Could be other collection/meeting points along the way.

Would sugest at least an hour earlier,if it is the sunday, the suggested time of the charity run/hoon is 2pm, this only gives us 15min leeway and would think the cars would like a little rest! :)

Adjusted time to get to hotel an hour earlier. I pitty the poor guys who are coming down from scotland and want to convoy in with us all.

How many cars from scotland are coming down the M6 ? Im happy to have a meet near my house as Im just of the Motorway at M6 J29?

Carl

Hi Nigel,

Its a good drive down to my first meet point so I'd be happy to meet you on route on the M6. Possibly the Charnock Richard Services would be a good place as its on a junction or two down from me and its easy to find. Give you chance to shake of the DVT from the long drive down. :)

Just let me know and Ill update the schedule.

Thanks

Carl

Ill create a thread for the NW convoy to factory rather than Hi-Jacking Kimbers.

Thanks
