Gear shift! terrible - FIXED

I thought it was just the way the Esprit was as I have heard about a 'NOT GREAT' gearshift on them so lived with it for the few weeks its been since I bought it but, I got in it this morning and it felt quite alot worse!

Hmm instantly thinking cash and exspence, even looked at buying the repair kits on the site but though I would have a little explore when I got back from work first.

Good job i did, after getting to the gear lever mech I discovered that the whole thing was comlpetly loose!!!! no wonder I was having trouble getting it into gear.

What had happened was that the little rubber isolaters the box is monted to the center tunnel with had perished and completely fallen away. The fix was simple, throw them away and just bolt it to the tunnel without them. I imagine they are only there in an attempt to isolate some NVH (noise Harshness and Vibration) from being transmitted from the engine. Trouble is they are at best 1 maybe 2 mm thick once compressed so their not going to isolate much and after a quick test drive I get no vibration through it at all only a REALLY nice gear change now Ooohh the difference!

May/may not have been mentioned on here before but thought I would as it would be worth a look if your suffering a poor gearchange, afterall its a good freebe!!!

Had the tunel apart the other day on the GT3 but can't think what you're talking about - if you do stuff like this it's always worth a few piccies
