Stirling_Villeneuve
I've finally done it.... it's been a total culture shock but after a rather worrying start and many 'What have I done!?!?!?! moments , I'm finally thinking 'Evora' as opposed to 'Elise' and it's starting to make sense! I'l keep you posted as to progress, in the meantime has anyone else gone down that route, if so how have things worked out? Gold FFM TomE Posted September 16, 2012 Gold FFM Report Share Posted September 16, 2012 Did the same at the end of May going from an Elise SC to an Evora S. My major "what have I done moment" was driving from my overnight hotel in Leeds over to JCT in glorious sunshine with the roof off, thinking "why am I giving up a convertible?". Within 5 minutes of driving off in my Evora I'd forgotten all about that and had an awesome road trip away from the main roads for 6 hours to get back home. The Evora has got a lot of attention, much more than the Elise ever did. And we now have two cars that we can all get in, so I can pick my daughters up from gym or we can all go to Goodwood. The Evora has turned out to be a perfect GT for me - comfortable on long journeys but equally at home on back roads and with handling that is very reminiscent of the good bits of the Elise without the downsides of rattling over every pothole. Subjectively the Evora is just as quick as my old Elise in the dry but is much more confidence-inspiring to drive so I expect would be quicker in the wet. Only downsides are the S fuel consumption (22 compared to 30 in the Elise) and the cost of the rear 20" tyres. So I now have a "grown up" car that'll transport the whole family but still put down the pace cross-country and on track Thanks for the reminder Rob - was out driving those roads this morning! robcarter
Tom - I agree with all the above... I suppose I had the benefit of Elise absence with a 6 year gap. It reminded me enough of the Elise with more power and definitely grown up. Suits family life much better too! Elise had become a comfortable motorbike as I would sneak out for a quick blast all alone. Has been a resounding success all around. I will sneak into East Sussex to get our latest recruit on board! I hear you on the roof but I'd not taken my hardtop off in a while.... Hopefully the right sort of attention? Derek
I've gone fron Exige 240 to Evora, to Elise S/C to Evora S. The S is a great car, but if you are getting 22, I have to ask if you are trying hard enough. I seem to have a ceiling of 20. Quote You appear with the tedious inevitability of an unwelcome season. Gold FFM TomE Posted September 17, 2012 Gold FFM Report Share Posted September 17, 2012 The attention I've got has all been positive: heads turned and pointing by adults & kids when in slow traffic in towns, people coming up to me in car parks & petrol stations to look and chat, people gawping out the window as I pass them on the motorway. I'm also pretty sure the car has a special presence on the road, as I've found a lot of people moving out of the outside lane on the motorway to let me pass even though the speed differential isn't that great and I leave a decent gap rather than tailgate. Clearly I need to try harder on my fuel consumption 22mpg was my best ever run and it's mostly been 20-21. I did manage 10mpg round Goodwood though

That's good to hear, I'm not a huge one for attention, the Elise was ok, I used to kid myself most people thought of that as more of an enthusiasts car or perhaps just a toy, the Evora is definitely more serious.... and yes I've notice a few people leaping out of the way already, but actually the Elise used to have the same effect on some people. Either way I went for a more sedate colour this time round in a vein attempt to keep a low-ish profile! What colour's your Evora? Oh and Bibs, 20-23 so far... but I'm behaving myself! Gold FFM TomE Posted September 17, 2012 Gold FFM Report Share Posted September 17, 2012 Mine's Laser Blue which is eye-catching without being shouty like the oranges and yellows. And Bibs' fuel consumption - I'm not at all surprised
Stirling_Villeneuve
Ahhh.. ok, I px'ed my Persian Blue Elise, a similar sort of intense blue to Lazar, both great colours, I went through the yellow, shouty Norfolk Mustard phase with my first Elise, this time I've toned things down a lot with Amethyst Grey. It's very subtle but comes alive in the sun.... ie about 2 days of the year! Quote Currently having an illicit affair with another marque, be back in the fold one day... Kier
I went from a Elise S2 to Evora S. I loved the Elise, but the Evora is in a different league in every respect! As has been said above, even the lack of ability to take the roof off is forgotten very quickly, all I have to do is remind myself of what I am driving now
Sven76
Elise R to Evora S. Did 20' km in my Elise in 4 years, took my just 1 years in the Evora to get there. Love the car!
Whitey
Elise 111R to Evora NA - and dont regret it at all. The Evora is just as much fun on the B roads as the Elise, but is also alot more practical - great for a 6 day trip to Classic LeMans this year with Mrs W and that was a mixture of camping and hotels, so the car was fully loaded, and we could never have taken all we did in the Elise. insertaliashere
I recently made the switch from an 05 111r to an evora S. Having owned and driven only the Elise for 7 years it was a huge change for me. I put the order in for the Evora because I had grown sort of tired of the Elise. I figured the Evora would be a more mature car. When I got the car, first I wondered if I made the right choice. I looked online for the first few weeks at used Elises and contemplated getting another. I'm still getting used to it. The Evora doesn't feel as raw as the Elise. And I get that it's not supposed to. If my Elise hadn't been hit by another car, I would have definitely kept it. I do like that the Evora can be quiet and calm to drive. And it's very comfy. I just miss the other end of the spectrum that the Elise sits in. I LOVED the Elise. I really like the Evora.
Stirling_Villeneuve
I just gone from Elise R to Evora S and I"m in the same place. I wouldn't say I'm going through withdrawls but I'm finding it hard to connect with the Evora. I've been driving Elises for 12 years and it's VERY early days with the Evora, I'm driving everyday in an attempt to bond with the car and I want to give it a good shot but I have a game plan if things don't work out. It's odd though, I'm having good days and bad days. Out of interest how long have you had your Evora? Quote Currently having an illicit affair with another marque, be back in the fold one day... insertaliashere
I've had it since mid July. I'm still adjusting. I still find the car difficult to park (lol - I still can't judge the distance to the front and sides of the car). I was unbelievable parking the Elise! With the Evora... always crooked! hahahaha I have ~1600 miles and drive the car everywhere, everyday! Eglise
Interesting thread, I'm seriously considering flipping a Morgan Roadster (3.0L V6) for an Evora but the poor mpg of the S is a downer and the N/A has no real world performance advantage over the Mog.... Bibs
That's not much in way of a comparison - 0-60 may be similar but in terms of driving experience, they couldn't be more different. Eglise
I agree, I need to drive an N/A and an S before coming to any conclusions.
