so been a fustrating time what with delays on parts so ive been getting on with the little jobs .

20121212_213122-1.jpg

the parts arrived for the translator bar and as the turbos came back stripped

20121213_142502.jpg

i ordered some new gaskets to refit the manifolds for when the turbos get replaced .

20121213_142450-1.jpg

20121213_144244-1.jpg

a bit of sanding and flattening the years of grime and soot

20121213_143316-1.jpg

20121213_145606-1.jpg

re- fitting the manifolds working round the bolts to even the spread .

also removed the remain seal and fitted that again after the methods i used last time might have created leaks hopefully this time itll be ok.

now my rear lights .

IMG_1424.jpg

i dont have a third brake light in the spoiler and the conversion lights are good but only the outers work unless you use the fog light and then its only half the unit and looks weird so i made this .

20121213_215835.jpg

its a home made relay loom that after some carefull drilling and filing i now have all four lights at the rear doing the same thing and it looks fab ill post a vid of it all working later .

the gearbox translator shaft ends came in so a little grease and spanner work got it operating smoothly as it did 15 yrs ago

these are the corner trims from the arch behind the oil coolers ive taken the rusty mesh out after cutting the rusty bolts off and noticed the two side edges were broke on both .

20130207_212922_zpsc75dc2ba.jpg

and this was a hole where the guy before had all the weird stuff holding the spoiler on underneath now fixed

20130207_212942_zpsd1409d9c.jpg

20130207_212951_zps77294914.jpg

after some fibre glass work and some paint both repaired

20130207_215657_zps4560588e.jpg

and my lovely cracked rattling heat shields

20130207_200204_zps1ef3f42e.jpg

20130207_200208_zps7c327cfe.jpg

why take the time to drill and add new metal to broke shields and make them rattle when it would have been better to replace i dont know some people . well ive cut welded and shapped a new thicker piece of stainless and not looks much better .

Alex,

While you are at the cleaning...  Not sure if you are aware but there is an LT thread where some have discovered that sand blasting the intake plenums is a very bad idea due to the ability of the blasting media to get caught under the baffles for the PCV system.  There is no sure way to clean all that out, without removing the baffles.

as for the 'sand'-blasting, as some of you can recall from my rebuild ..there is a simpler and save way of just using salt and sodium !

it is washable and does not harm the internals

for the aluminium-pipes there is also no need to use a wire brush to remove the natural oxidisation, as this is a natural process and takes place later on again

if you want to clean off all the dirt & oily stuff without brake cleaner or petrol -just wash them in concentrated alcaline bathroom-cleaner/pool cleaner and brush them with a simple finger brush with plastic brushes on it after that.

so been hard at it again

firstly this what a bleedin nightmare so the manual says measure 103mm from the base this mark should be level with the edge of the block.

sounds simple enough but the measurement is on the bend of the dip stick pipe so i straightened the bend a little and was able to get the right length but the straight edge then means theres no space for the manifold it brings the pipe to closer to the block so ive put the bend back in fitted the manifold and i think im roughly 2 mm away from the right measurement so ill have to not fill the oil to the very top mark just under .

20130216_172147_zps3bd5257d.jpg

then turned my attention to the engine a little

20130217_105956_zps0428c6fe.jpg

removing cover cleaning up old oil and dirt from years of driving neglect .

20130217_114801_zps4f01f826.jpg

started with the water pump pully in the parts washer replace the old rusty bolts and greased up the mount.

20130217_123256_zpsdbec4a51.jpg

cleaned and oiled the drive tension thingy

20130217_105955_zps26bb3967.jpg

then the hydraulic pump question why is the water pump pulley plastic and and this one heavy metal ????

20130217_111854_zps142f93f2.jpg

so shot blasted

20130217_114001_zps4efc0946.jpg

20130217_113952_zpsd95755d2.jpg

thought about brush paint and then thought better of it needed an aerosol finish

20130217_114629_zps376e23a4.jpg

20130217_114635_zps6071e41e.jpg

20130217_114641_zps59ba4f45.jpg

looks fab

so with the cover cleaned and the pulleys cleaned painted oiled and re fitted

20130217_130616_zpsb51a380d.jpg

i then went to the dirty breather pipes

20130217_124318_zps742e5381.jpg

20130217_124311_zps535a5a11.jpg

little time on the wheel to get rid of the grime

cleaned the hoses and clips looks better

20130217_130625_zps442fdbcf.jpg

20130217_130311_zpsa88292d3.jpg
