Kerbed a diamond cut alloy!

Recommended Posts

Any ideas on how easy it is to fix or who is best to ask? We have alloy and wheel insurance.

I want it back to new!

Yikes! Good luck with that Rob... and keep the number of whoever you use to hand, I'll probably need it myself someday!

It was sorted on Saturday at home by a company through the insurance called Revive www.revive-uk.com

I think they are a national company so may be useful for some of us in the future.

Thanks for that and just in time as the multi storey in Windsor is a little tighter than I thought :-( Did he mention what they charge?

Trevor.

I'll get around to it at some point.

I took mine to get a quote a few weeks ago as I took off the wheel lacquer all the way around one of my rims. The guy where I took it said that as the wheel had the two different colours it'd have to be sent away and have the surface skimmed off which would be about £125.

I'm not really sure why it'd need to be skimmed as the alloy isn't damaged, it's litrally just the lacquer, so I was a bit unsure why he thought that was, I'm sure it could be done cheaper. I've not progressed any further though as I've lost my job so wheel repair will have to wait :(

I've finally done it too... just through the lacquer though.

However, on the basis that's there's 3 more wheels waiting to be scraped along the kerbs of left Sussex is it really worth sorting it out? :coffee:

Alternatively if I leave it, will it creep into the wheel, causing it to corrode and crumble into dust before sheering off the rear axel, wrenching the driveshaft from the gearbox, scattering cogs all over the M25 before the engine explodes into it's component parts and entire car is engulfed in a huge fireball. blob%20fire.gif

All because I couldn't be assed to get it fixed... :vava:

You'll be fine!

Or you may blow the car up!!!

You could always buy a lacquer touch up stick from Halfords if you're worried about it?

Stirling - never lacking drama!!!!

I got mine done quickly as I knew it would really bug me and we have free wheel & tyre insurance. The one perk of the sale other than the car itself!!

Would that make you a knackered lacquer slacker? :sofa:

That's me!

Actually the only thing I'd have changed if I'd specced the car from the factory , ( my car was in stock at the dealers ), would be the wheels. I'd have gone for black with that colour combo... not that makes any difference to the knackered lacquer, just thought I"d put it out there! :smoke:

So Rob.... do that bunch come to you house or did you take the car to your local de-knackerer?

You could have them all reconned and recoloured for about £200, they look nice in gloss black :D

Come to your home but very professional and quick!

If you go for a recolour I saw these guys at Goodwood who looked very professional!

Hmmm... tempting. I"ll have to think about it, my preference would be for a semi matt/anodised type of finish, I'm sure Lotus used to offer that on Exiges a while back... don't want to pimp my ride too much though! :smoke:

So my car is at B and C for the recall and I asked them to sort a refurb on one of my rears. Right now Phil is stumped, unable to find anyone who can do it. Not the usual ones they use and not Lepsons. Trying to find out from Lotus what to do as it stands. Problem seems to the wheel being 2 different colours.

This was why the guy at my local place said it'd cost me a lot more than usual, he said he'd have to send it off rather than doing it himself

The black on the Exige wheels are Satin Black, rather than Matt or Glass.

My Evora has the Satin effect and it looks superb

Yep.... looks the part!

So does anyone do 'while you wait' service or do I have to put my car up on bricks for a month?

Update on my kerned wheel.... I did it again, although I DO have a good excuse...

I was driving through one of the local villages, lots of double parked cars, some kindly old biddy was in a Golf had pulled into a space and signalled to let me pass. The exact moment I got level with her car she decided to drive into me so it was run for the kerb of get side swiped! Funny thing is she was REALLY annoyed too....waving and shouting, a total nut job!  Luckily I was missed her kamikaze attempt but I stuffed the wheel again... same one fortunately!

Anyway, I'm not going to do anything about it 'til with bad weather's over but what's the deal with getting the damage repaired and a change of colour, ( I just love the black on the Sports Racers ). Any thoughts on how long the car will be without wheels?
