Helping a good mate of mine reset the timing on his dry sump turbo ,i realised that his flywheel only has 2 dots on it .They are spaced approximately 15mm apart .

Is this normal for that model as no matter which way you turn the dizzy ,you dont pick them up.

Any advice to ensure another turbo Esprit is on the road would be appreciated .

Definitely not normal. You may be missing them due to rust or muck - they're tough enough to see in any case. Set TDC using the cams, verify if necessary that cylinders 1/4 are at top of travel, then have a close look at the flywheel - you should find them. Mark them with white paint or whatever then try again dynamically.
