Gold FFM Gjk Posted December 1, 2021 Gold FFM Report Share Posted December 1, 2021 Did they do the before flight from the crew room? Why didn’t the pilot find it on his “walk around”? Quote It’s only metal, it cannot win!

Gold FFM Barrykearley Posted December 1, 2021 Gold FFM Report Share Posted December 1, 2021 Should have had some design from Lotus. The covers would have been on back order - accident avoided 👍 1 1 Quote Only here once

LotusLeftLotusRight
I think they were the only bits they had found, floating on the surface, which is why they pretty much knew from the start what had happened. Reminds me of the preserved Vulcan. They forgot to remove some dehumidifier bags from the engine intakes prior to a flight from Doncaster. The two port side engines were wrecked, but fortunately it hadn’t started its take-off run.

Bravo73
Can you imagine being in that cockpit, at 200ft over the North Sea at night, heading towards the Bismarck at 80kts, in a hail of flak? I can’t. My mind boggles. They were amazing.
Gold FFM C8RKH Posted December 21, 2021 Gold FFM Report Share Posted December 21, 2021 (edited) Not sure what health and safety would make of that! ChrisJ
I think all the aircraft survived the Bismarck, the Channel Dash on the other hand. Channel Dash - The Bravest of the Brave - History of Manston Airfield (manstonhistory.org.uk) Quote As part of that operation, slow, aged and fabric covered Fairey Swordfish torpedo bombers of the Fleet Air Arm, would be ordered to attack the ships from the base at RAF Manston. Without the majority of their fighter cover, the airmen knew that their chances of success and survival were slim, but pressed on regardless. All six aircraft were shot to pieces by the intense German defences, including up to date Luftwaffe fighter cover, with only five of the 18 aircrew surviving. LotusLeftLotusRight
I used to live in a flat overlooking Southend seafront. There used to be an annual two day Bank holiday air show. One year the weather was awful with low cloud and little visibility. The only aircraft that dared to take to the sky was the Swordfish. It made one slow pass early on the Saturday afternoon and that was that. Air show over for another year.
