Shame it’s not a twin stick!

It’s only metal, it cannot win!

I think this is very appropriate. Usually seen in aircraft pre flight 😉

There's ugly, then there's that

I came into this world screaming and covered in someone elses blood. I'll probably leave it in the same way.

Millenium Falcon?

All we know is that when they stop making this, we will be properly, properly sad.Jeremy Clarkson on the Esprit.

I don’t think the victor was ugly… more of a menace! All part of the Cold War strategy….. maybe?

I'd assume the complex manifold of valves was an elaborate fuel tank management system. I'd have trouble keeping them all straight!

Recently read an excellent book "Race of Aces" which chronicles the triumphs and tragedies of the efforts of Ira Bong and others to eclipse Rickenbacker's 26 WW1 victories and become top American ace. It also chronicles Lindbergh's visit to the So Pacific under the ruse of offering his abilities to devise longer range economy techniques with the P-38. That he did, but he really just used his notoriety to get in theater to experience air combat. He became the only civilian to shoot down enemy combatants, bagging a couple of Japanese planes during some routine sorties. He was actually a PITA to the units that hosted him, and they were glad when the brass caught on and made him move on.

The reason there's no front screen (there's a periscope instead and he'd slip sideways to see the runway when landing, a common practise amongst his postal aviators) was to move a tank from behind him to in front - he was worried that in a crash he'd be flattened between the tank and the engine!

The Cornwall aviation museum had to close recently as their lease was up and Cornwall council were not interested in renewing/preserving it. So they have put a couple of aircraft up for sale on ebay. Did ask the wife as we would have room for the Lightning ...have not got a flat enough space for the Canberra.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/385682565761 starting at £15k +vat.

The Lightning is able to be taken apart.
