Quick Question...

... regarding pronunciations.

Is Grantham pronounced "Granth - am" or "Grant - em"? This to settle a minor dispute.

Furthermore, and related, is Cheshunt pronounced "Ches - ent" or "Shesh - unt", or neither? And don't just say "neither", smart-asses! (I say this because that's probably what I would do). Please provide a facsimile of dictionary pronunciation I might be able to decipher :) This to prevent me sounding the fool at some unknown date in the future.

Many thanks in advance.

They're a bit odd, fairly threatening one may say.

That said, there's a bloke there with an R8 and a Gazelle helicopter he parks in the field next to his house which is pretty cool

I think his name's Sid and there is an anecdote involving a near crash of the Gazelle followed by two of us flying it to Biggin for repairs, held together by speedtape and optimism.....can't be two Gazelles in that area, can there?

My error...the one I knew was G-UZEL and lived in Robertsbridge. It was a proper dark blue colour... I can remember epoxying the blade tips back together before going to Biggin! A really nice toy, if somewhat expensive to operate...it came and rescued me by bringing engine spares for my boat to Roanne in France when I bent the distributor drive shaft. Landing fees and parking for the weekend was 10 Francs! Quick, too, for a helicopter, 180 knots iirc. Rebuilt the boat engine and then we repaired to Troisgros to dine.....! Great thing with helicopters is arriving at the hotel in one....you can commit whatever atrocity you wish, and all they say is "Yes, Sir..." Also the essential thing, if you have a need to do a forced landing, is to find a handy pub carpark to do it in!
