HC/LC & Turbo Engine and Cylinder Head Info

Recommended Posts

Hi all

Recently registered to the site and have been having a butchers through all the sections and have a couple of questions if I may for all you technicaly minded types.

What is the actual difference between the Turbo, HC and LC cylinder heads, for example

Is there a difference with the combustion chamber volumes

Coolant chambers - are these enlarged

Are all the valve types and sizes the same

Are all the oil galleries/returns the same across the variants

Many Thanks

Regards

Doug

oops it might help if I put my first post in the correct section - should be in the esprit area :o)

If a Moderator could move this for me I would appreciate it.

combustion chambers the same - compression controlled by pistons The only cooling difference I am aware of is the HC has a smaller stub at the front (although these are interchangeable) Valves the same oil galleries the same inlet ports larger I run a HC head on an LC block

Thats excellent thankyou

I've heard that there is also a mod to by changing the impellors on water pumps.  Are there any actual flow rate relevent engine rpm figures available for the standard cooling systems.

Just to double check the turbo valves are of the same material as the HC and LC items

They are a different size  valve stem to the N/A head though. If I remember the turbo exhaust valve stems are 7mm dia and the N/A are 6mm dia.

Yep, both HC & LC exhaust valves are the same (expensive) sodium cooled part. Maybe there are differences between the water pumps, not sure about that one....

The changes to later heads seem to be mainly to the cooling galleries.

Otherwise as one head gasket fits all, the details are fairly minor.
