Popular Post Alex Carter 156
as you asked i thought id do this to help tools phillips screw driver torx drivers t30 and t10 10mm rachet spanner adjustable head easier picks curved and straight alan key forgot size about a 4 mm possibly and a trim tool circlip pliers . 1 start inside the door card unclip the plastic surround at the top of the handle it just pops off carefully 2 undo the the screw visable at the top of the handle and 1 at the base of the handle 3 then pull the mirror cable out and unclip 4 the under the door card two phillips screws one at the front 1 at the back 5 then at the back of the door card pull the bottom out . then lift up and off the top of the door 6 then cut the cable tie in the middle holding the wires to the door 7 now undo the 4 screws on the out side of the spacer . 8 then these three plastic screws /clips 9 undo these two clips 1 set are for the doors speakers 1 for the mirror motor tuck the speaker ones into the door for now 10 now look up inside te hole to the back of the mirror . this is why you need the adjustable head on the spanner 11 then the mirror comes away from the door remember to hold the mirror or it will drop hit the door or smash on the floor ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ then we have the mirror dismantle 1 start with this ring penatrating fluid wd40 maybe needed circlip pliers will be needed . 2 gently push the glass with your fingers to one side to reveal this tab underneath 3 slide the tab to the side and this disengages the locking ring around the glass unit not sure why i have bubble wrap in here but stranger things have happened 4 gently undo these wire plugs on the back of the glass 5 when the fluid has penetrated this will undo then undo and remove this 6 slide the plastic up into the cover and undo this grub screw with alan key then remove this 7 then this torx30 screw is revealed this will loosen the neck , then onto the mirror housing 8 then inside the mirror cover there are three chrome screws undo these the cover is now lose but not free 9 last but not least we need to remove the plug at the back of the motor . to do this there are three shiney torx10 screw in the face of the motor undo these and the motor become free to unclip the plug and pull out the way here it is dismantled unlike mine yours will be in one piece evidently mr bodge it has been in here too permission to say cock ! bloody man this will be re welded now by an alloy welder rather than 50 screws brackets chewing gum metal glue and idiot tipex . anyways thats it redo backwards hope this helps people

Günter 28
the Esprit is in the market long time now .. sometimes it may help to look around and see what was done before http://www.lotusespritworld.com/MaintenanceMods.html http://www.lotusespritworld.com/EGuides/EMaintenance/doorremovenew.html http://www.andywhittaker.com/Cars/LotusEspritGT3/DoorMirror/tabid/85/Default.aspx Quote ********************************************************************* to name the things if I see them, that's what I call integrity.. *********************************************************************

ramjet 1,085
I thought the bubble wrap may have been an anti-spider device. You know how they get in there and you can't even hose the buggers out of there? Quote All we know is that when they stop making this, we will be properly, properly sad.Jeremy Clarkson on the Esprit. Opinions are like armpits. Everyone has them, some just stink more than others.
Günter 28
Alex, see my signature the thing is -there in no reason to hail someone for something, that's it ..there is a lot of things in the forum and on other places, your Esprit is not the first who suffered from age and the lazyness of the style of production ..you just need to look around. If you are interested to show what you do, simply add your tasks there too ..into LEW, it could be helpfull and entertaining for others as well Quote ********************************************************************* to name the things if I see them, that's what I call integrity.. *********************************************************************

Alex Carter 156
I've actually got rid of these flappy things off of my esprit I'm keeping them in the parts store aka the wife's cupboard but my lotus is now sporting a set from a Honda instead electric and quite gt looking I experimented with the vw corrado/mclaren f1 type but I think these new ones work and look better

jonwat 422
Alex they look a nice replacement, does the mount/plinth cover any marks left by the old mirror & what's that in the second picture, masking??? Quote Cheers, John W http://jonwatkins.co.uk
Alex Carter 156
I used masking tape to give me an idea of were the Citroën mirror was any adjustments I made had to be inside this ring so if I ever swapped back the base plate would cover all evidence of a change . The base plates are of similar size if anything the Honda one a little bit bigger the hardest bit was finding a bit of thick rubber to make a vibration plate for the base as I didn't want a floppy mirror . The wiring was simply testing with a power probe on the Honda then using a multi metre on the esprit wiring and matching up the two . Fairly easy fix but the results are so much better it adds new shape to the car and the lines match well with the cars already stealth looking lines.

You know how they get in there and you can't even hose the buggers out of there? One of my pet hates is spiders in door mirrors and the associated morning cobwebs. I have tried all sorts of things over the years to get the little buggers out but eventually stumbled on a solution. I had the fly spray out in the gazebo to take some mossies down and inadvertently covered a spider hiding in a corner. It dropped like a stone. Idea...get the little WD40 red tube, stick it in the nozzle, poke it behind the door mirror glass and wham. Evil, I know... Gold FFM Barrykearley 6,833 Posted November 5, 2015 Gold FFM Report Share Posted November 5, 2015 Ah Alan - here's a tip for you - go onto Amazon and search for spiderex its used for spraying on cctv cameras - stops the bstards making webs over the lens. Works a treat too 1 Quote Only here once
swindon_alan 1,693
Ace. Do you know how it works Barry? Does it kill them or just make it so slippery that their boots can't grip on it? Quote I tempted fate...now my Esprit V8 IS in bits...(sob)
Gold FFM Barrykearley 6,833 Posted November 5, 2015 Gold FFM Report Share Posted November 5, 2015 It's like the reverse of catnip - but for spiders !! They really don't like the smell. Maybe it's a dead Spider stink Quote Only here once

Alex Carter 156
i find a jet wash sorts that out . also if you have cob webs your not using it enough or going fast enough .lol i once tested a snail on the glass he lasted to 150 then fell off
Newts 16
Useful article Alex, the two Citroen mirrors on my GT3 are quite floppy and slow and been thinking about replacements, I know owengt3 used Honda items but not sure which ones. Most spider repellents are peppermint, used to work for a company that makes it Quote Colin
Alex Carter 156
The pair I used are from an s2000 . Base plates fit well you just need to make holes for the three bolt Honda plynth rather than the two from citroen
