Pop quiz - name that part !

Make it easy for yous - off the SE.

The very top is the exhuast manifold so we're kinda pointing to the front of the car from here - driven off the crank - the red arrow points to a pipe that is clipped along the rear chassis and just ends at atmosphere - the yellow arrow is a pipe that runs areound the engine to the air filter side where it splits into 2 - one would have gone on the EBPV and throttle jack air valves and one runs to the front it seems - initial guess is that this is the diaphram vacuum pump ? :(

Rings about right becuase non of the vacuum stuff seems to work.

In which has anyone got a picture of how this was piped up as it seems here (as with the rest of the engine) things have become lose and fallen off, the amount of stuff I found inbetween the cam towers !

Can anyone beat Travis to it ? :(

TIA

That is the vacuum pump. The lower hose goes to the brake booster, heater controls, rear relay panel (for the throttle jack and EBP valve).

The upper (cut) red hose is actually the outlet to atmosphere. It is actually a silencer hose to move the vacuum pump noise out the rear of the car. The hose marked by the red arrow shouldn't cause any functionality problems. It may just increase the noise. You either have a bad pump, which is possible (I had to replace mine). Or you have another vacuum leak. On an 89SE without ABS, the brakes don't work at all without the vacuum pump (as in manual non-power assisted brakes) I don't know about a later car with ABS, but I assume the brakes would also not work very well.

If its the pump, you can buy a NAPA pump here in the states for $110. The part # is 64-1006. The air outle hose is not used on some of the newer pumps.

You can see some vacuum pump stuff here http://www.lotuscolorado.com/vulcangrey/ga.../ross-89?page=4

It is also common for the bracket that holds the pump, to break and drop the waterpump belt with the vacuum pump, so make sure it's in there good.

As always thank you for the info.

Had an inclaning it was the vac pump but couldn't be sure as I can't crank the engine atm.

OK so the yellow hose must be the exhuast for the pump. Since I have ripped out the throttle jack and EBPV system I'll have to blank that off.

Any ideas on what the very thin solid line running along the RHS of the car is ?

I assume thats for the ventilation valves ?

think theres a pipe to the front for the sucky sucky valves in the heater that are probably all piped up wrong anyway as mine were. also goes to the brake servo. infact, theres a tee near the servo going to the heater valves.

There's a very thin solid line runs from the ECU side tank area to the MAP sensor.

Ya nailed that one down but this goes into the body just above the seatbelt from there I totally lose it.

The yellow arrow hose is the intake (sucky sucky) of the vacuum pump. That is hooked into the tee that goes to the brakes and that hardline under the chassis. The red arrow hose is to the pump outlet (vent) along the chassis. The hard plastic line goes up and tees to the heater panel controls and the rear relay panel. The line for the heater control panel goes up to the top right part of the bulkhead and through the a-pillar I believe.

Yup thats where the line goes - OK I leave that one alone.

The yellow arrow points to a bit of disconnected hose infact, the bit with the jubilee clip on must be the 'sucky' port as this is the pipe that goes into the backbone and has the Tee off to the throttle jack / EBPV valves - I assume thats the exhaust for the pump as when you blow into the line (which you probably shouldn't do but never mind) you get guff coming out of there.

Think it's all sorted now though - cheers :(

Oh, you're right. I got it in my head that the yellow arrow was going to something it wasn't. Need to use my eyes more.
