Correct torque for the cam cover bolts?

Recommended Posts

Can anyone tell me for the 907?

I was going over the car with a fine tooth comb, and noticed a couple of the bolts were barely more than finger tight.

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris,

Off the top of my head it's something like 8lb/ft which isn't a huge amount more than finger tight. If they're done up too tight the seals compress too much and leak. Finger tight with an extra nip from the spanner is about right as not many folk have a torque wrench that goes that low.

Chris, that's correct, they're supposed to have very little torque applied.

I would suggest though, that if they're not leaking oil, leave well alone. If they're not leaking and you tighten unevenly, you run the risk of inducing oil leaks.

3-4 ft-lbs!!!

Tighten them sequentially to squeeze out the sealant as you go.

For those who don't have an in-lb torque wrench, Pete has it right when he says finger tight with an extra nip of the spanner.
