What has happened to the Evora GTE?

Recommended Posts

It is still listed on the Lotus website but is it one of the moth-balled cars or is it still being made? I saw what looked like a GTE mule at the factory last week but couldn't get close enough to see what it was.

There are a couple round this way. One in Thorpe. I think they do make it for you if you have the hundred and what ever grand to pay for one. I love the body kit and think they should make a cheaper version with the body kit on.

Can you get a pic Buddsy if you see it around? The GTE isn't homologated so I doubt that's a customer car, or a GTE.

I bet it is a body-kit no real GTE........the only "real" GTE that was delivered belongs to Gerard Lopez I think (as a non homologated example as Bibs mentioned)

Well these clients would be pretty disgruntled right now!

Didn't they allegedly have an order for 100 from China a while back?  :ermm:

They were never delivered. Problems with safety regulations on the bodykit. Some were built but stood at Hethel for quite a while- may still be there.

Woah really?

I make that £140m worth of business lost due to a body kit regulation, if it's true WTF are Lotus playing at?

Can someone wake them up please?   :tumbleweed: ... or perhaps they're quite happy with their secret master plan for the future of our once great marque?

From other threads the issue with the bodykit is that it wasn't as aerodynamic as it looked and created issues with lift at the front. Also, the 444bhp engine never actually produced that and the higher output engine they did try didn't last long before 'dying'

To increase the actual track of the car was causing significant issues too.

Pah..... in the good old days Lotus would've put those out and let the punters do the R&D, safe in the knowledge that they've collected £140m along the way! :smoke:

Actually Im not sure it is a GTE now I think a bit harder. Its is one of the black & gold F1 cars with the red wing mirrors. For some reason I was getting that car mixed up in my mind, as first time I saw it I was like wow its one of those!!!

That is the GTE Race Car, which unfortunately has nochting to do with the road car.

The race car doesn't have any of the GTE road car's body parts, it is based on the standard Evora.
