BRAKE PROBLEM - Suspension/Brakes/Wheels/Hubs/Steering/Geo - The Lotus Forums Jump to content

Recommended Posts

I have a Lotus Esprit S4. Driving home today, the ABS light & the handbrake light came on. Thinking i hadn't took the handbrake off fully, i decided to pull over. To my horror i suddenly had no brakes!!!!!

Does anybody have any idea's what has caused  this & any solutions to rectify the problem, please???

Upgrade today to remove Google ads and support TLF.

Delco brakes on the S4 are a complicated combination of electrics and hydraulics and can throw all manner of problems at you, but start with the basics ie. check fluids, leaks and connections.

No doubt Darren (the forum delco brake Guru ) will be along shortly with the answer !!

Personally I would junk the whole system and replace with a real servo!!!!!!!

The first step is to use Espritmon to see what error codes the ABS ecu is showing. Assuming the handbrake was not on then the brake tell tale indicates low brake fluid level and/or accumulator pressure below 1800 psi.

Welcome to TLF Ian. :welcome:

Though not the sort of post you would like to put on here first.

You should also duck over to the Introductions thread and make yourself known to everyone.

Hi Ian, welcome to TLF

Darren is your main man for this, and local (in Lotus terms within 40 miles)

Unfortunately I do know he is tied up doing his own Esprit at the moment

so will not have read this.. I will text him later today and let him know.

We do have a few NMEG members in Tamworth area all with Esprit's.

We all try to meet up socially once or twice a month and can fix just about

any Esprit related issue you may have, so don't worry...

If you get chance give me a call on 07889 647406 so we can discus the problem

in more detail, I may even be able to pop over today myself and have a look.

Dave

No brakes as in Soft pedal? Or no brakes as in super firm pedal?

If it was a soft pedal, then your hand brake being left on would have cooked the fluid and boiled gases into the hydraulic circuit.
