She looks lovely in chrome, I wonder how much it cost, (the article didn't say).

I just skimmed the article, but I think it said that was a vinyl wrap job.  Can't be too expensive if it is a vinyl.

I have seen this car at a meet (Newlands corner??) and whilst it is a real head turner there were a few problems with the wrap such that the effect didnt look quite so good as you got closer to the car. But, thats an insane price I reckon with a rebuilt engine you would be looking at around £8k to £8.5K tops.

Hmm, 8-8.5k is surely too low for any roadworthy esprit with a recent engine rebuild mike! I'd think about another one at that price.

If it goes for that price, when my engine goes back in ill chrome wrap the body and be quids in, and I'll buy a v8

The owner has not had it that long.

Rebuilt mine last year but take the view that at this age unless the engine had been rebuilt you wouldnt really want to touch it. The problem with the Esprit is that next to its competitors it still looks a bit like a kit car. I dont think I would expect more than £8k for mine as I would look for a quick sale to an enthusiast and money spent doesnt equal more value just a quicker sale. You have to be realistic about these things.

What??  In 13 year ownership no ones every said to me it looks like a kit car.

 

Nice ones should get around £9-10k and dogs / average around £6-£8k.

Do you guys monitor the prices of other classic cars?  Check out the price of a good (but common) Triumph TR4/6. these days.  Near doubled in last few years.   I'm not sure why we don't think Esprits should join the party.

 

(when I bought my 1st rather tired Esprit in 1986 it was 3X the cost of a good TR6).

 

2 people were walking past my house the other day - one said to the other "I think that's one of those kit cars", the other said -  I don't think so....

I haven't heard any kit car remarks from people either in my 2 years of ownership - everyone who makes a remark knows what they are - 99% are people who used to dream about owning them as kids and become giddy at the prospect of taking a closer look, others ask whether "they're any good" - to which my reply is "Yes. Go and buy one. Now."

Hear what you're saying mike, but if i'd be paying 5-6k for a full engine rebuild from a reputable specialist, then 2.5k for everything else thrown in doesn't seem too bad a deal to me when i want to keep the car in spares for as long as possible.

Plus i'd have my own engine to tinker with...

A £6k engine rebuild doesn't mean a £6k increase in retail value. It just makes a previous potential shed marketable.
