Lotus esprit Minder car

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

Been looking at a few yellow s2's on the internet.  Does anyone have more pictures of the yellow minder car?

From what I can see the interior is brown and beige.  This is the same interior and colour scheme I wish to have on my lotus.

Here is one of the few pictures I have found on the internet.

The minder car which had its rear window blown out was gold not yellow as I recall.

According to the internet .. the minder car was originally metallic brown.. But the number plates are the same:

If you want to I change the situation! Right people right time; just the wrong location. I've got a good idea: Just you keep me near. I'll be so good for you....   :getmecoat:

It's definitely the same car, just repainted yellow from Championship Gold. The original interior would have been that brown marcasite material with cream leather seats, door inserts and cream carpets. Not sure what it has now, perhaps that has been revamped also.

Originally gold, blue and then yellow - my Esprit went through the same changes!

thought I share some photos

the dull blue one are how the car was when I bought it

the other blue ones are how it looked when I put it back on the road.

lots more how it looks now.

Just a note for geert the sills are the original sills, because I wanted to paint the sills and both

lower valances in for colour (my personal choice) so the colour on the sills finished

to a sharp edge to give the car a lower look I bonded a length of hard wood quadrant each side

Nicely saved Philip, it looks like the kind of car that would have been broken only a few years ago. What were the very neat holes cut in the sills for??

PS The car always stuck in my memory as a gold S2 was my childhood dream car, and remember nearly jumping out of the seat when it appeared on TV. it was me that identified your car and sent you the link to the minder episode, about 10 years ago on the old Yahoo forums. You then went out and bought the box set ;) Time flies eh?

Thanks mark

it was a lot of work but worth every minute and every penny

love the car its such a great drive. The hole in the sill was cut by the previous

owner for maintenance on the handbrake (such a prat) and there was loads household

block connectors too.

My big decision keep it yellow or put it back gold .

I recall you agonising over this before as it had just been painted! Gold is my personal favourite on an S2, plus it would confirm it's star status ;)

I'd also go for gold. If you don't like the original shade how about going for a more modern shade of gold. It seems the bronzy gold is in fashion as there seems to be plenty of new cars about in this sort of colour. ?

You know it's the right thing to do....

Funny how colour fashions change, there were loads of gold cars sprayed over in the 90s.

Hi all I got to say I'm warming to gold and I just love the photo of the main man sitting

on the front wing of a S2 with G-PRIX in the background guess its my passion

for cars and aviation.

Hi,

My S2.2 was originally gold .A previous owner sprayed it imperial green (almost black, the color of the carlton lotusses)

I like the esprit in a dark or black shade.

I love it in yellow too.

And although I love the picture of the gold S2 above and the one with Colin Chapman, I don't think I will like my Esprit in gold back again. I guess I have to see one for real, before making a decision to respray it.

The thing is the only reason I am considering changing back to gold

is I feel I owe it to the history of the car (the minder thing)as a colour

I don't think very good but as I said before I am warming to it, but it is such a lot of work

to undo the yellow repaint.

I don't think you can go wrong respraying it gold, I think it looks stunning and it's very rare to find one in gold these days.

Hi all

just received certificate of authenticity from

Andy Graham for the esprit and it tells me that

it was the company car of Don Mclauchlan. I guess

he had many cars over his time with Lotus but still nice

to know. also No 4 of 8 gold cars and No 1 of 3 with

champagne leather trim.
