What do the Excel handbrake cable split collets do?

Recommended Posts

I'm curious - as my title asks what do they do - what are they for? They must keep the cable in place (centrally) in the tube through the side of the chassis, and they sit in the machined piece in the cable at that position. Do they need grease / greasing to allow the cable to slide or is it all just part of the adjustment / cable length not needing to be mm perfect to work.

By the way don't poke you finger into the tube - it can get stuck!!

Brian, please do tell, how would you know that a finger can get stuck. We cannot guess.

I've never had to replace the cables on any of my Excels yet so have not investigated the collets.

How would I know that a finger can get stuck? Like most of my car restoration - trial and ERROR - hence the question about grease
