Atle
Hi all, The plastic drive on the window wiper motor in my 91 SE is ruined. I have had the garage take it out for me (didn't have the mental strength to do it myself), the garage can not source a replacement motor. SJs says they are out of production with no spares available. There are RHD motors available, but they do not fit LHD vehicles. So, does anybody have any good advice? It is after all just the drive wheel that has failed. Atle, Norway. Quote This way to ship models! http://www.modelship...user-index.html
ramjet
Is it the same type of motor, just a different hand so you could use the gear from it to fix yours? Atle
Hi Michael, thanks for reply. Yes, that idea struck me. Seems like the last way out! Quote This way to ship models! http://www.modelship...user-index.html
mdw
The plastic gear is machined on its face to hold brass contact tracks in a set pattern . I might work but you would need to open it up to see.
Atle
Hi Malcolm, the motor has been opened and gear taken out - the green and strange plastic gear has a worn-down area on the outer vertical surface (radius). Would this gear be machined differently on a RHD versus LHD? Quote This way to ship models! http://www.modelship...user-index.html
mdw
I dont know for sure but if they were the same as the rhd wheels I cant see why they would offer 2 versions as the electric motor itself will almost certainly be the same. I will see if I have my spare one in the garage and split it then photograph it for you to see a rhd version. Ok , I have opened the motor and this is what the rhd wheel looks like. So my guess is the cut out position at park is in a different place to the lhd. Please note I dont know if it has stopped at park or not as its just a spare motor I have in the garage. Good luck Edited August 20, 2013 by mdw
Atle
Thank you very much for your help, Malcolm. I will forward this to the garage so they can take it further. Had no idea this would be so challenging! Quote This way to ship models! http://www.modelship...user-index.html
