If it were a Lotus parked there, could it have been worse? I think at 91C it may have exploded!

Really?!?    None of the architects and engineers involved thought for a moment that what is essentially a giant concave mirror might have this effect?    All that energy being collected and reflected was going to have to go somewhere.   Did they not consider the ever-changing position of the sun in the sky?

 

A building that shape is not an idea I would have ever pursued from the start . . .

Not only that, he's done it before.  Vegas has an example of Rafael Viñoly's fryscraper designs. The "Vdara Death Ray".

However, the ever sensible Jeremy Vine seemed to arrive at a solution on his Radio 2 show yesterday morning. His line of logic was to suggest banning cars from the area. Genius.
