My little Gold beastie is alive and well!

Well I have finally gotten my car back together and she is running fine indeed!

I have stripped all of the rediculous smog gear off, fitted Dellorto's in lui of the Stromberg's, Electromotive coil pack ignition (no distributor to mess with), rear suspension upper link mod to include new drive axle's, bearings, seals, new clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, stainless clutch hose, engine stay rod assembly, turbo engine mounts, timing belt, valve adjustment, water pump, new coolant hoses throughout and a custom exhaust.

I put a few miles on today and she screams like hell!!!!!!!!

I cannot believe what a difference Dellorto's make compared to the Stromberg's, especially on a Federalized low compression engine.

Did I mention how much I love this car??????????????????

I think I will sit in her all night with a few pints and wipe the drool off the dash!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EXCELLENT NEWS

John - do you have a full size version of the pic used in your avatar?

I very nearly spent a night sleeping in mine when I got it back after an 18 month crash repair!!!! :)

Don't forget to drive it!:o

John -- that's fantastic! All the major upgrades one could want in an S2, and you hammered it out all in one sitting! Way to go! B)

Sounds like you'll really be able to enjoy driving it now!

What will you do when it's time for the car's smog test? Will it pass with the Dellortos fitted? It's a conversion I would like to do on mine at some time as I've read before that they make a world of difference to the engine repsonse. Also, what jets did you use in the carbs? The standard European-spec ones or some special set-up for the low compression?

Wasn't Stromberg one of the big-bad-guys in Bond?!

Trevor,

There is no problem passing emissions with them. Some people will say that they do better than the Zenith-Stromberg carbs. My white car is a Calif. car, and it passed no problem with the Dellortos. All of the stock exhaust and emissions components are retained, and the Dellorto air box is slightly modified by drilling holes in the bottom and feeding the exhaust gas recirculation tubes in there to face the trumpets.

I couldn't tell you what the jet settings are, but one of the Jensen-Healey suppliers probably can. I don't think the difference between the 8.5 and 9.5 pistons will make a huge difference when it comes to jetting -- the difference when compressed is not big; the difference in the amount of air/fuel actually drawn in with the federal vs. UK/Row pistons is very slight. I don't think it will upset the mixture beyond what simple adjustments can take care of. But don't listen to me -- check with an expert!

Yeah, we always get a kick out of that over here, and wonder if it was in fact mere coincidence!

Gents thanks for all of the kind comments.

Trevor,

I have my car tagged out of state where I have another residence so the smog police hopefully won't be bothering me.

I had the carbs jetted basically in line with what the manual suggested with a few changes.

The carbs are a tad off still and I plan on fine tuning them this weekend to get them right.

I can post the specs when I'm done so you can a baseline for what works here in SoCal.

Regards,

John

Trevor,

I set my Dellorto's up with the following specs:

Choke 36

Main Jet 160

Main Air Correction 230

Idle Jet 45

Idle jet Holder 7850.7

Pump Jet 60

Starter Jet 70

Main Emulsion Tube 7772-8

Stater Emulsion Tube 7482-1

I need to also say that I fitted Dellorto DHLA 40's to my car.

I wanted the 45's but after talking to a few people who deal with the 907 I was told it is a waste of cash to stick 45's on a Federal low compression engine.

My car runs well but around 4,000 RPM she flattens out a bit.

I changed the combination a little over this weekend and I am no better.................runs like absolute hell up to 4000 then it feels as if the boat anchor got tossed out.

I have the electromotive coil packs fitted which is another tuning issue..............mess with the carbs and you have to mess with it as well.

Ah, the joys of old car ownership................LOL!!!
