Can not agree more.  Any S3 Turbo.  There is no contest

 

I won't argue with that. The S3 Turbo is impossibly cool but I think it needs to be an early car with the big graphics and stripes for me (yes I am totally biased!).

 

The Essex is so cool you can even write 'ESSEX' all over it in big letters and it's still cooler than penguin piss. Try that on any other car!

 

Buddsy I was going to say that I like the SD1 lights but thought it might be a 'get my coat' moment. But now you've said it, I don't mind admitting that I like the rest of the SD1 too! SD1 V8 Vitesse, I'd still love a go in one of those now.

How can there be any discussion on this. There is only one supercool Esprit.

Yes it doesn't matter that you can't see the roof stereo, all you need is to know it's there...

It's so far out in front I wouldn't have a clue which would be the 2nd coolest car stereo system.

I see cool as a funky kinda 70s idea so for me also a gold S2 with a brown corduroy interior!

Sorry but after reading your complimentary comment towards the SD1 I couldn't resist putting a pic of my Vitesse in - hope you like it. Have had the Twin Plenum Vitesse since 2007 but planning to sell as I have plans to buy another G Turbo Esprit. I owned the Esprit pictured below which I see is currently for sale at UKSportscars. That is a lovely car but the one I plan to buy this time is a little more special I think......wish me luck!

The lights are the same but I've always seen them personally as two totally different cars and love them both!!!

Have to correct you all, but you are forgiven since you never got the X180-R outside the USA.  The X180-R is the best!  And the coolest...  You would not believe how much traction those have with the roll cage, and the ZF LSD.  The Sport 300 is close, but lacks the cage and chassis stiffness of the X180-R.

Ah, no.

 

The Sport 300 also had the roll-cage, it was an optional but it was available right from the factory, and all the cars that did not have the full cage still have the complete set of mounting points and the other chassis stiffeners; it also came by default with the top engine brace, the LSD, same brakes, suspension etc. as the X180R.

 

So at the factory one could "strip" an S300 to light and stiff specification with the optional package, but not "upgrade" the X180R to "more comfortable".

 

Additionally the wheels/tires (much larger and grippier, the front tires on the S300 are wider than the rears on the X180R, the rears are the widest ever mounted on an Esprit and match the race cars') and aero package, which essentially reflect the race X180R/GT/Le Mans cars, this is pretty clear by just looking at the S300 and Le Mans cars.

 

If I am not mistaken the turbocharger was also upgraded from T3 to the T3/T4 hybrid.

 

It is the best :-)

Ah no...not quite.......I didn't intend it to be interpreted as "MINE" meaning the one belonging to Moley...but "MINE" as a collective answer, as in we ought to all consider that our own car is the coolest....

I have just run this past the wife (she knows nothing about cars) and showed her the esprit time line, she said that the sport 300 looked the 'coolest' 

 

 

You're definitely in the running for 'coolest wife'.

We wouldn't have had the Sport 300 without it. The extended Turbo SE spoiler looks all wrong if putting it there helped beat Corvettes and Porsches then that's just fine by me.

 

A deeply cool car with a deeply cool story.

 

It turned the Esprit from a car that everybody liked to a car that everybody respected.

You are absolutely right, it is extremely cool, and yet that one is the racing X180R car :-)

 

If we are including racing Esprits then in my opinion the crown goes to the Zanardi/Portman #45 Sport 300 GT3.

 

It didn't race for long, but that thing was sparring with the Porsche 911 GT2, Ferrari F40LM/GTE and McLaren F1 GTRs, a different breed of cars...
