DVR
Bummer on the insurance front - Switzerland doesn't have race tracks, and therefore my insurance won't cover car use on a track - especially not in a foreign country! Same here , we just have to be careful and hope the people in front and back of us have the same sentiment.
Bibs
Unless you are covered you cannnot go on the track as per the indeminity form. Too much risk I'm afraid. Perhaps you could try taking out a one day policy with a UK based insurer? Kimbers
A one day insurance cover will not cost too much and cover you for any mishaps (It's not you or the people around you, it's unforeseen circumstances, like a wheel coming off etc). There won't be any overtaking and not too many on the track at once, you can space yourselves as you will want a good picture of just you coming round the corner. Quote Possibly save your life. Advantage
Most track day cover will NOT cover any damage to third parties. It'll only recompense for damage to your own car and it's occupants. I'd be surprised if any one could get cover for 'Fully Comprehensive' for something classed as a off-road/track day event, which makes me surprised the factory is insisting on it. Advantage
Bibs, I'm confused. Can you give a full and clear indication of what we are insuring against and what title the parade laps and Test Track come under. ie: are we insuring for the protection of third parties/fellow LEF members, potential damage to factory property/staff or just our own cars/person etc. Is the Test Track a track? So is it a 'Track Day' (allbeit only for two laps)? Or is the Test Track a private road open to a few members of the public for a few hours? If it's not a Track Day why wouldn't a normal road fully comp insurance policy suffice? Sorry about the anal nature of the questions, but I'm just passing them on from a couple of phone calls I've made today (grrr....insurance companies) and also, I'm not entirely sure that two lots of insurance (your pre-arranged public liability etc and my extra top up/track specific) for two laps (at a parade pace) is going to be a worthwhile or value for money expenditure. DVR
Just talked to my insurance company and told them I would be driving on the Lotus TEST track in a parade with a max. speed of 70mph. Was not a problem , my normal insurance would cover it as long as I was not driving on a RACE track at speed.
Kimbers
Just talked to my insurance company and told them I would be driving on the Lotus TEST track in a parade with a max. speed of 70mph. Was not a problem , my normal insurance would cover it as long as I was not driving on a RACE track at speed. This is what I was told. It's not a Race track. It's a private road used for testing cars. There will be a limit of 70mph (around) no overtaking and you will be spaced. From what I am told 70% of insurance companies should be fine with it and I am suprised some of you are having problems. My suggestion is make a fuss about it being a private road. Does that mean they don't cover you when you are parked on a friends driveway or an unadopted road in a housing estate? They are just arses. If in doubt, shout......Kimbers school of getting things done for 92 years! B) Quote Possibly save your life. snuffy
I'm surprised people are having problems as well. What do you think is going to happen to your car in the first place ? 70 mph, no overtaking and spaced - what the hell are you going to hit ? Quote Right then, said Fred. MPx
I'm also confused about this insurance thing. The form we've downloaded makes us declare that we have adequate insurance in force "on track". I'm with FJ too, so I know I'm that not covered for track days - so I cant sign the form. But why do they require that we are insured for the track? Eg Alan doesn't require us to be insured for the Club Lotus Castle Combe day in May. All of the other track days that I do, its down to me to decide - I can pay a high premium or pay for any mistakes afterwards! With such a controlled session we aren't going to hit each other or the edges are we? So whats it all about? As it stands I wont be on the track just cos I cant sign up for that statement on the form. Kimbers
The reason that we are concerned (Bibs and me....and Lotus) is that what happens if you have an unforeseen problem? A wheel comes off, brakes fail, You blink just as the guy in front does an emergency stop etc. What happens is you accept the risk but the guy you/your wheel hits doesn't cause he's gonna want Quote Possibly save your life. Graham - These are Lotus's rules, not mine. If you need further details regarding this I will ask Lotus but suffice to say what you have read on their indemnity form is what they want, no negotiation. They've been doing this a long time and have used no doubt a very expensive team of lawyers draw up that document so what they say goes. If you feel that it's not value for money, then so be it. I'm not there to make up your mind, judge you for your decision or make up the rules, just to ensure that this event is as safe as it possibly can be for all involved, which in this case is you, me, other attendees and Lotus. Gold FFM mayevora Posted October 4, 2006 Gold FFM Report Share Posted October 4, 2006 I have just come off the phone with my Ins. Co. (Aon) They told me I would not be covered for this event. This was after Aon had themselves gone into this website and thread and read all that has gone before on this subject. I was then asked had I done a supervised track day before that I could provide any sort of evidence/certificate to this effect. In the dim and distant past, I did a one day, formula ford track day. Aon said if I could find that certificate they would cover me for up to 5 track days per year at no additional cost to my policy. Not thinking I would even get close to finding a scruffy 10 year old certificate, it turned out to be first place I looked. Phoned Aon and now covered. If anybody else can find evidence of similar, try that with your Ins. Co. Quote Always do sober what you said you'd do drunk - that will teach us to keep mouth shut! Can you tell what the situation with 1) and 2) is please. Also have you got any idea of how much we may have to pay for the overall insurance yet ?.
