Rolls 145 Report post Posted November 7, 2015 14 hours ago, jonroberts said: "In fact cold and damp actually cure it faster. " I thought the same but I have noticed in the past when it's really cold it gets tiny little micro bubbles. Could be a reaction of some sought though. Side note - I store it in the fridge as Recommended. When you pull it out it is separated in the tin. Also, I'll post a pic tomorrow: I painted the chasis and a week later noticed a bolt hole that needed flattening. When I dollied/hammered that area the POR still remained intact. Just dulled off slightly. Extraordinary.
darenwsmith 13 Report post Posted November 9, 2015 Thanks for the tips guys on the POR15 and skin contact, how many coats do you give it before the last coat of chassis black? Ive done a few repairs to the chassis ordered some laser cut discs fo the spring cups as one side has signs or wear and a new bottom plate it has some serious jacking dents!. After all the welding is done its going for a secong finer blasting before I paint it with the POR15 ill post some pictures on the progress.

darenwsmith 13 Report post Posted April 5, 2016 First coat of POR15 its really hard and man does this stuff stick does not come off your hands! After 2 coats off the POR15 I've applied a tie coat of there grey etching primer ready for the final coat of the chassis black paint then hopefully should last a few years frost says they guarantee the paint for 10 years so should be good.
silverfrost 1,386 Report post Posted April 6, 2016 Looks great Darren, It is a shame the chassis was damaged but at least you have that sorted now, Will be nice when the chassis is finished and you can start finally bolting all the new suspension on and then it will really start to take shape. Good luck and look forward to the updates Quote A
jcslocum 93 Report post Posted April 6, 2016 Have you been able to do any coating on the inside of the chassis?? POR15 is great on the outside, and I have used this on the inside of some frames: http://www.eastwood.com/internal-frame-coating-w-spray-nozzle-qt.html The spray end workes very well and giving a good even coating all around inside the frame area. 1 Quote Jon - 1984 Esprit Turbo
darenwsmith 13 Report post Posted April 6, 2016 I have give the inside two coats were I can get too but I was wondering how to reach the areas in the front section and that looks just the job thank you. I have now applied 2 coats of POR15 , 1 coat POR etch primer in grey and finally 2 coats of POR15 chassis black it's looking a lot better than I expected the POR range of paints are really good and the finish is good from brush/roller application. now to start on all the suspension items just got them back from blasting. darenwsmith 13 Report post Posted April 6, 2016 started to remove the numerous layers of paint started life as roman bronze, then white and finally about 3 coats of red so decided to strip it back to the gel coat to make sure the paint is correct. Now deciding what colour to paint the car I would go back to the original Roman Bronze but it really don't like the dark brown colour so it's a lighter shade of bronze or lotus orange or lotus gold any ideas ?? ChrisJ 1,091 2 Vehicles Report post Posted April 6, 2016 How about Gold? As this Elite @Farmer Bob What are you doing with the interior? I have liked the non leather S2 interiors I've seen. Chris
darenwsmith 13 Report post Posted April 6, 2016 That's nice colour Chris is it your car? Yer Gold is one of my choices I have asked the spray shop to do me sample panels in gold, light metalic bronze & orange I was thinking of a not so common colour! interior is my next decision I am leaning towards black leather with cream leather or material infills? jonroberts 111 Report post Posted April 6, 2016 Roman Bronze is very rare and for originality it's probably what it should go back to, but if you don't particularly like it whats the point. They look good in black too.

Both my cars are Monaco white, the gold is from another thread and I thought it was an outstanding colour. Here's a couple of photos of a bonze Elite - last one ever! - so as to give you an idea of how it may look.

darenwsmith 13 Report post Posted April 20, 2016 just sorting out the rear hubs any ideas on what cross references on hub seals and UJ joints please??
jonroberts 111 Report post Posted April 20, 2016 I recently ordered a set of genuine Dana Spicer 1310 U/J's from Bailey Morris Limited in Cambridgeshire. Their product code was BM605. £27.37 each plus VAT and delivery. I specifically wanted genuine joints as I was not convinced about the unmarked/unbranded ones on offer everywhere else. Can't help you on the two hub seals I'm afraid, but I'm sure SJ Sportscars can sort you out - they have U/J's as well.
darenwsmith 13 Report post Posted April 20, 2016 hi Jon thank you for the reply I have seen a old thread on the forum all about UJ's and a mass of problems with them even the heavy duty ones from SJ's so I just wonder what everyone else was doing now? I will give Bailey Morris a try. cheers daren
