snoboardr
I insured my Evora S through a specialist insurer in April. I had zilcho idea how many miles I'd do but, given my general driving patterns and some research I did about how other people used their Evora, I made what I thought was a sensible estimate of 8,000 miles per year. As it happens, since buying it in April I've done 6,000 miles and am going to clock up another 1,000 miles this coming weekend. The Evora is just such an awesome car that long distance routes are totally enjoyable and I've ended up doing a couple of multi-day "road trips" from Fife to down south and back. Having realised I'm likely to hit the 8,000 miles that I said when I applied for a quote, I thought I'd best email to find out if I need to increase the premium etc if I do end up likely to go over - my last 4.5 months of driving are unlikely to be "average" because two of my road trips have related to specific one-off events and the Scottish winter will be setting in soon. However, I was somewhat stunned to find out that this is the first I hear that 8,000 miles is the absolute limit that insurer will handle under the Lotus scheme and I'm now basically screwed. When I say it's the first I hear, I ought to be brutally honest and say it's the first I *remember* hearing/reading. Can I just switch insurer or is that a bad idea - I guess I will have to forego the £800 annual premium I paid in full? It was presumably that high as it was my first "performance car" and I had only a small NCB that was eligible (as up to about 3 years ago I was primarily riding a motorcycle and just hiring cars when I needed them). I'll call AIB later but wondered about anyone's general experience with using a car for, ya know, actually driving it and doing more than the meagre number of miles that all these Lotus-specific policies seem to allow? Eurgh.

snoboardr
I wish I'd thought about how much Evoras are to insure when you've no experience of driving anything other than 4x4 pickup trucks before I bought one -- apparently 11 years of experience and no claims on supersports motorbikes don't count. Anyway, yes, thumbs up to Darren for finding me an insurer who will do me for 10,000 miles after previous broker revealed 8k was the max they'd be able to get me. Someone needs to tell insurers that Evoras are awesome and comfortable enough to do long journeys and that anyone driving one simply never wants to stop and turn the engine off! Gold FFM johnpwalsh Posted October 9, 2014 Gold FFM Report Share Posted October 9, 2014 Just taken out a second insurance with Darren at AiB insurance for Wendy's new toy and once again a fantastic price and well below what I expected. Bibs if we make Brands again next year you will have to keep 2 spaces for us now. Simon, you had exactly the same quotes as I had on my 81 S3 and paid the same price, well discounted, eventually changed it to the S4 and not much difference even with the car being parked almost 2 miles from my home address.
