Changed the interior bulbs to LED's

Recommended Posts

I decided to change the interior bulbs to LED's. I've put it off in the past as I don't have any issue with the standard interior lamps. However, a late night trawl on Amazon and for only £5 I thought what the heck, let's see what they look like.

So here you go...

post-10092-0-95271800-1391328355.jpgpost-10092-0-30826800-1391328379.jpgpost-10092-0-70975900-1391328401.jpg

Apparently they use a lot less juice, but I don't have them on for long periods of time so can't see how it makes much difference. They're certainly a lot more clinical than the original bulbs

My mates think they look great, but I'm not sure. I also did the rear number plate lamps which I'm definitely not sure of.

Jaws,

Awesome job. That looks much better.

I've got the Premium Interior with Dasboard and Door LED inserts.. looks like that might actually go far better. Fantastic, could you post a link or PM me which bulbs to go for please?

Is it fiddly? Any chance of breaking anything or just a swooping exercise?

Cheers,

A ;-)

These are the ones I got....http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00EDNLB6M/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They've gone up by 1p though!!

They were very easy to fit, although I was drunk when I fitted them and blew fuse 12. Once sober I fitted the bulbs properly then refitted the fuse. Unlike normal bulbs LED bulbs have a +ve & -ve, so make sure they are the right way round. I also found I had to bend the fixings a bit to make sure the bulbs didn't rotate.

For reference you need 38mm bulbs for the number plate fixings.

The probability of blowing that fuse is near 100%, so best to pull it before you start.

Thanks for the link.

This is my kind of DIY, maximum impact with a large Laphroaig in my hand!

Looks fantastic. Much more in keeping with the contemporary design. I'm ordering!

These are the ones I bought and tried first....

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0091Q0QJY/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

However, they are expensive.

I did get these ones which were £2.66 for 2 but my mate pinched them for his Elise before i got a chance to test them....

I've done all the interior (& replaced the 3A fuse when shorted the casing on the footwell one!) ones and very pleased with the look.  Haven't done the number plate partly as something on the packet said they were illegal in the UK.  Oh yes and I also only bought the 1 stoopidly!

Jaws,

Thanks buddy, just taken me 20 mins with a cup of tea but it's done and looks great already.

Made the school boy error of having a look at the drivers side foot well bulb first to check size and blew the fuse!!! DOHH :-0 lol!!!!! Had to happen as I'm a man and don't really read instructions :-)

Went back to the thread and followed it through without any problems.

Will take some photos when it's dark to show what it looks like with the other Premium Pack strip ambient lighting. It actually matches now so can't wait to see what it all looks like. It always looked a bit odd having a yellowish light and white LED lighting... Take note Lotus!

I'd like to add being very careful not to loose the female end of the grommet that holds the rear quarter fuse panel cover... I dropped it twice but managed to find it. That could quite have easily fallen out of reach into the body and rattled forevermore!!

Cost £5 and was an easy DIY job with maximum impact.. was also interesting to pull the carpet back and see how beautifully simple it all is.

Thanks again for posting the links to where you bought the bulbs from and your instructions, owe you a beer!

Cheers,

A ;-)

P.S my fuse 12 was a 5amp and not 3amp as suggested by this thread and the owners manual... Guess that might be due to the Premium Pack LED lighting strips?? Have left it all alone as it works.. Anyone else have the same set up?

Likely someone at the dealer had already blown the original fuse - you've seen yourself how easy it is to blow.

Mine had a 5amp fuse too, but I replaced it with a 3amp. I think the fuse box was changed slightly around about when MY11 was introduced.

As for Lotus taking note; I've notice the latest premium pack does away with foot well lamps and has slightly different mood lighting.

Here's mine done. Certainly much brighter and matches the xenon headlights and other interior lights. I like the way it clicks on immediately too ;-)

Yes. It popped immediately. I didn't risk rear ones and pulled the the fuse which was a 3amp just in case!

Will replace the 5amp with a 3amp..

I thought that those mini spade fuses were shaped so you could only fit like for like.  Day I blew mine I had a 7A or above available in my spares selection but it didn't want to fit until I realised that there was one of each spare across the middle of the box. Doh!  3A fitted fine and I tried one of the other for interest and they didn't fit either...... strange other managed.

They do and trial and error only I think.  That was my method anyway.
