Lotus Eclat S2

Recommended Posts

Eclat S2 for sale, very rare to find in this condition. Alpine white with black and grey laser stripe hopsack cloth interior (much harder wearing han leather).

This car has been the subject of much work over the last 2 years and is now immaculate. It was bought as an already sound vehicle which had been dry stored for some 15+ years awaiting a respray which never happened. Close inspection revealed that the car had clearly been cherished by its 3 former owners, as evidenced by the substitution of stainless fixings almost everywhere. These cars often suffer from damp (from poor door and window seals) but the car had obviously been stored very well, and had the best interior I had ever seen on a 4 seater.  The dashboard has not been hacked about and has an original Lotus branded radio that I’ve never seen before.

The brakes were were refurbished front to back. The fuel system was stripped and cleaned, new fuel lines and filter, the fuel tank acid stripped and relined, fuel pump replaced and carburetors rebuilt. Seized suspension pins and bushes were replaced also, along with the U/Js and bearings.

The car was resprayed in BMW Alpine white instead of the original green, as that was the colour I had always wanted and virtually nothing of the original remained (it had crazed like many 1970s metallic paints). New old stock and remanufactured lettering and graphics were added as per original. The car came with some items of new chrome, which is very hard to find new now, so these were used, plus some hard to find badges and trim parts.

It had a full C service including all fluids and belts, plus a reconditioned waterpump and tensioners etc.

I now need to sell this car as I have a “backlog” of projects including 2 Elites, so there are a few jobs left to finish which I just don’t have time for. I will try and get them fixed before sale as the weather gets nicer but can’t promise

Asking £5495 or best offer and can email a full list of work and parts replaced to anyone interested.

Looks very nice ..... BUT ..... "I now need to sell this car as I have a “backlog” of projects including 2 Elites, so there are a few jobs left to finish which I just don’t have time for. I will try and get them fixed before sale as the weather gets nicer but can’t promise"

Wonder what "a few jobs" means?

It's mine. If it's causing confusion I'll add the jobs to the list, just trying to give a totally honest description of everything.

there are 3 things left to do asap, one is the heater fan which doesn't work - I thought the motor was stuck, then someone pointed out there are two fans, which points to something else, someone suggested the switch commonly burns out as the current is wired straight through.

Secondly there is a break in the wiring for the interior lights - annoying as I did this somehow, they were working when I got the car but it had a current drain from an old alarm which was removed, along with the connection. Needs a new wire slotting in somewhere. As above wiring is not a strong point with me.

Lastly the tires are getting old, loads of tread, no degradation but they are Goodyear VRs which have not been available for some time now, must be 10 years plus.

I wouldn't sell a car without the next guy knowing everything I know. It looked like someone was interested after the NEC which was handy as I hate selling cars, especially in the glare of internet forums, but it seems to have fallen through. If I keep going with this I'll never start the Elite which just keep glaring at me.

Hi Mark.

I think it looks like a really nice car, I do especially like the interior, and it would go well with my Esprit. I am thinking of getting an Excel later this year, but this Eclat has made me think about an earlier car

Thanks for clarifying what the few jobs are. If you do manage to fix the first two, I might be interested.

Hi Mark

Do you think it would be crazy to consider a lovely S2 Eclat to sit alongside my S1 Elite?

It too is finished with delightful stainless detail and your car looks lovely. I miss my brown S2 Elite and now the weather is perking up, everything starts to look much better in the older car world...................hmmmmmmmm, then I'd have an Esprit, an Elite and an Eclat

Best

No, it's black with an incredibly original and untouched Marcasite interior and apparently, according to the archive dept at Lotus, it was the only UK car with this particular colour combination.

It would have looked great if they'd all been white but I'm really quite taken by the idea of your car being added to the stable. I've had the Esprit almost a couple of years and it's never really been a moments bother. In fact both cars have been generally very good once I'd replaced the ignition systems with a modern type.

No doubt the new season will bring the odd challenge but I'm looking forwards to spring and driving them again.

Perhaps I should get up to see the Eclat??

Best

Simon

No problem, I'll PM you to exchange details as we are not a million miles apart (unless you have moved from the East Riding of York?). Must admit I regret not making more effort to hook up when you had that Altair green Elite, would have loved to have seen that.
