S1 Esprit Sun Visors

Recommended Posts

Can anyone help?

When we bought our S1 as a non runner it didn't have any sun visors or brackets.  I assume it should have had some and now driving it on the road could really do with some.

Does anyone know where I could get some or if they were off another standard production car?

Any comments, thoughts or advise would be very much appreciated.

Thanks.

Alec

I've just restored mine and they would be dead easy to fabricate. Shame I didn't know a few weeks ago as I could have taken dimensions but now they're covered. Have you got the panel they fix to?

The main part of the visor is just a tube with something like an 8mm hole in it. Then there is a thin piece of solid bar shaped to the sunvisor shape and welded at each end. The main fixing is just a chromed L shaped solid tube which has a thread at one end which goes through the panel in the roof. The other end has a plastic peg in it which pushes into a plastic clip on the panel in the roof. The inside of the material on the sunvisor has a couple of bits of foam.

Easy!

Paul.

I've got the header rail and visors from an S2 just sitting around  in my garage ATM. The header rail has the built up section for a roof mounted clock between the visors Give me a PM if you want to nip over and check it out. Andover isn't all that far from me

I think SJ's has the sun visor mounting bits (L-shaped brackets, etc.).

Don't get too excited about having them -- they only really fold down, and are not mounted in a position where they are able to block much light.   I think I've only found them useful once or twice in 18 years!

Hi Guys,

Just had my esprit shell done and realised that the visor panel is actually screwed in through the self tapping screws drilled through the windscreen are frame near the roof of the car..

Since my car has been sprayed - covering these screws.. Has anyone managed to re-attached the visor panel without using these screws?

Maybe I can bond with sealant?

The header rail is screwed in from the front inside the car on my S2 - one either side of the clock and one at each end.  There is a strip of wood bonded on the GRP above the windscreen for this to screw into.

I'm in the process of re-doing my S1 interior at the moment and apart from the dashboard, it's all empty if anybody wants measurements. Can't help with the visor internals I'm afraid though.

Vin - if you want some pictures or measurements of the wooden cross-rail and where its glued to the front inside of the roof area, let me know.

Cheers - Jon.

Hi Jon,

that would be great thanks, did you unscrew the wooden plinth from the windscreen area ? I remember i pulled mine off but the old screws are still there and my sprayer painted over them so hoping to keep them in place and silicone the wooden plinth back in place

@Vin - sorry for the delay in responding to you about the visor wooden rail.   I put a (very) short video up for you that shows the bare rail on my car :

http://youtu.be/xh5gmvrPFRg

It is a softwood rail 10mm thick, 35mm wide and 1105mm in length. Mine is glued on to the fiberglass - no evidence of screws to secure it.

Cheers - Jon.

You'd have to take the windscreen out to see the screws as it's screwed in from the outside.

Cheers, Paul.

Hi Jon,

I've got the original wooden plinth.. Paul is right, I will have to try and remove the old screws and screw the new plinth back in and screw the visor panel onto it :)
