V8 Jack storage position, up or down?

My '01 was received from the PO with the jack stored face down into the spare wheel cavity. But I have

also seen pictures of other V8's with the jack face up on the spare. As I am not the one that purchased the car new, I was wondering how they came from the factory? Is there some other reason for stowing the jack face up? I could imagine some people wanting easier access to the jack without removal of the plastic disk that it is strapped to. Just curious as to the "correct" stowage.
