Electrical gremlins on S2

Recommended Posts

Can anyone help with some wiring diagrams for the S2?

Finally got the car running today but smelt burning from the cabin, found some wiring melted in the fuse box (light purple), then found more under the bonnet again the light purple along with a few others. Worst area is the LH light lift motor which has really suffered, all melted to the plug :(

Guess the motor must have seized with all the awful weather then shorted out as did knock the light switch!

Total nightmare really as the car has an alarm system which is a mess and automatic so think it may be a CAT 1.

Lots of the wiring terminals look corroded so seems I have a lot to do cleaning up and re-wiring which is my Achilles heel :(

Bad lotus day today, feel like cutting my loses and moving on :(

Dave :)

Corroded terminals are a bastard...lots of cleaning needed. Best to use something like wetordri paper, 240 or 300grade, something like that. Get yourself a nice crimping tool...not one of those pressed steel jobbies, but something like this...

That will allow you to crimp terminals correctly. And buy some decent terminals and wire of the correct gauge. Makes one heck of a difference.....replacing the burned out wiring isn't difficult, just a bloomin' nuisance...check the fuses and the wiring to and from the fuse box....When I did some wiring work I disposed of all the alarm wiring which got rid of loads of assorted wires...(!) A bagful, at least.... Check the headlamp lift system and make sure it rotates and will go up and down electrically. If the car has been standing for a long time, it could have corroded... you can ty=uen it manually by the knob on the back of the motor...disconnect the battery first, as the motor will try to put the light pod down if you turn it too far with the power on. Sadly, I don;t have an S2 wiring diagram....

Thanks guys, great help.

Giorgio, my email is [email protected]

That diagram looks superb so I will print off in colour and get rid of that stupid alarm system and replace all that wiring which is burnt :)

John, I have a set of inline crimps with a similar tool as good at changing wiring just not good at understanding and testing it. I have already done the engine bay and rear lights which are all fine now but not looked at the front. Good job my wife came out when she did as I was curled up in the back while outdoors balancing the newly built carbs.

I need to get a new lift motor as mine is screwed now, anyone know where to get one or what they came off? I would guess TR7??

Hi Dave, wiring = easy. Buy thin wall cable from Auto sparks(really cheap). Remove tape from the loom. Repace melted wires with same colour from autosparks. tape loom. Check what was on the circuit first else the new wiring may melt.

Autosparks sell the correct crimps and pliers if you want to refurb the contacts.

Thanks Fabian, this was an old post when I had this car many years ago and the wiring was a complete mess.

I will check out Autosparks though as a few of the wires on the JPS aren’t great under the bonnet area where water gets from washing etc.

I need to talk to you about the corvette motors you used for the S1 and turbo, did they need much modification work to fit?
