My new S4s has let me down!

Recommended Posts

I'm sure there was more to the Mangel incident which we don't know to be fair and the North East one I thought was Manchester as mentioned above, was recovered very shortly after.

No harm in having more security, but it's not like these cars are often targetted by thieves. Sadly, they're not worth enough money.

Thanks lads, for the input - its all as valuable as gold IMO. re: "if you are not fully committed to the car, either financially or emotionally, you should move it on" When I made the financ

Hello Stephen, Just had a look over the fairly recent postings of your thread and with fresh eyes offer the following. Clearly something quite grave is amiss with the engine and one would be unwi

I really do hope you get the outcome you desire on this car.   Frankly some of the comments on this thread have been acidic and damn right petty at best - I’ve not enjoyed reading some of these

Update - car booked into ICE store to remove all traces of immobiliser.  Better them than me!

Also - re classics stolen - the real mini community has been having problems recently.  There has been seemingly a large collective effort in the trade of mini parts from stolen minis.  The rarer the better.  The fact that the door can almost be opened with a screwdriver makes it easy picking.  The thought of breaking a mk I cooper makes me cringe.

I have a riley elf and a mini - so best get the steering clam on there...

"3 people 2 Esprit" that sounds too much like an unfortunate thing that went viral a few years back - but moving swiftly on...

I did say that the little one could sit on his mother's lap.

That didn't go down too well, I have to admit.

  • 2 weeks later...

Update:-

I had the immobiliser removed today - cost 100.

No more flashing indicators!!!

The chap said that there were connections to the fuel cut off system, which I twiddled with on one occasion which mae it start (but I put that down to coincidence)

He had to do some work on the EMU/ECU behind the glove box (?) and he said that the unit was barely connected.  He moved it slightly which was enough to cause plug and unit to disengage (with no lamps etc at the dash).  So that was an AA call waiting to happen.

So now its a case of driving it to work many times and see if the 'no-start' is fixed.

Thanks for the support folks

Alas the CEL light still does not come on - pre start, plus I still have to do a a bit of fumbling behind the dash still. Shame you can't pull it from the front.

As I said I have to 'keep driving it' now ('oh what a pain'  :-)  ).  I've done repeated restarts.  The fact that the indicators don't go crazy on start/stop is nice!

The car hifi/security bloke mentioned that he was very confident that the immobiliser was - erm - immobilising.

So for now, time will tell.

Thanks again for the kind wishes - makes me wonder how we ever existed before this inter-web thingy

Alas the CEL light still does not come on - pre start,

If you've never seen the CEL illuminated then it sounds like the bulb has been removed (or a blown one fitted) in order to hide the fact that there's a problem.

Common practice with some unscrupulous dealers

I am becoming suspicious in that being true.

On the test drive I said something like 'The check engine light... I need that sorted, so it stops lighting up during driving'

In effect that may be literally what they did!

Sounds like it, I'd complain to them in writing, soon, if you expect them to replace the bulb & fix the original problem, which they should. :o

That'll be why I can't remember what was said. :hrhr:

Technically thats trolling, which surprises me.  But then, loneliness can be boring I s'pose  :harhar:

Funnily enough I have written a whole load of stuff o which they said they'd get back to me.  They didn't.  Also - they didn't follow up on the charges for the hydraulic boot lifter, aircon fix and a coupe of other things.  No bill - nothing.  Which tells me that they know they've been less than professional.

I tried updating the page regarding reviewing dealers an specialists but my username/password would not let me go there.

I believe that review area requires a completely new login like the classifieds does.

As far as the lack of bill from them goes, I think it was more of a gesture of good will.

The CEL issue really does need to be resolved though.

What happened with your freescan logging? Thought you would have had the cable by now?
